Sekhmet and Begtse Theories
Hi everyone,
I'd like to talk about Sekhmet and Begtse because every time I think about them, I end up with more questions.
Why are they allies ? How did they die ? Did they know each other before their deaths ? And why do they seem to be more than allies ? They almost look like a couple.
Considering their personalities, why don't they fight each other ? Honestly, two gods of war with such tyrannical personalities getting along so well feels unusual. We saw Kratos and Týr become allies at the end of Ragnarok and in Valhalla, but that's because Kratos is no longer the god he once was, and because Týr is genuinely a good god.
Personally, I think the writers are going to draw a parallel between Kratos and Faye by using Begtse and Sekhmet's relationship.
They're two divine couples (well, Faye isn't technically a goddess, but she's close enough) made up of characters from different mythologies. Faye comes from Norse mythology and Kratos from Greek mythology. Likewise, one of this new couple comes from Egyptian mythology and the other from Tibetan Buddhist mythology.
Because of those obvious similarities, I think the game will highlight how different these two relationships really are.
One relationship is genuine, sincere and touching. They help each other, make each other better, and try to do good.
The other is fake, driven by self-interest and tyranny. They're together because it benefits them, and they unite to do evil.
As for their past, I think they knew each other before arriving in the Everywhen. Another possibility is that they didn't know each other at all, and Sekhmet had already been there for a long time before bringing Begtse under her control.
My main theory is this :
I think the Egyptian pantheon went to war against the Mongolian/Tibetan pantheon for some reason. Or maybe the Mongolian pantheon called for help and the Egyptian pantheon answered. Either way, Sekhmet and Begtse met each other. Maybe they even fought first, just like Kratos and Faye did, before eventually understanding one another.
Seeing this as a betrayal, both pantheons conspired to kill them.
Another theory is that they chose death themselves.
Maybe they realized their relationship would never be accepted because of their responsibilities and status within their respective pantheons. So they chose to die in order to be reunited somewhere their love wouldn't be judged.
They also seem to have managed to seal the gateway leading to the Everywhen. If that's true, dead gods can no longer reach this place, which suggests they wanted to be left alone and live there in peace. The only exception seems to be those who possess a mask, like Faye with the mask fragment in the palm of her hand.
I mentioned death, but maybe it wasn't suicide at all. Maybe they simply used one of the masks to escape into the Everywhen.
I actually like this theory because I have a hard time imagining who could have killed two gods like them, unless several gods from different pantheons worked together to eliminate them.
That brings me to another point : power.
Sekhmet clearly seems to be the one in charge.
Even Begtse's own army (the Mongol soldiers) appears to obey her more than their own god. When she arrives, Begtse steps aside, and the soldiers immediately line up to honor her and let her pass.
Does Begtse's army owe her a debt ? Or is it simply because she's the stronger of the two ?
Those are my thoughts and theories about Sekhmet and Begtse.
