1 Minute paralysis

I had an extremely strange incident occur. I was going up a short flight of stairs when I suddenly was unable to move either of my legs to go up the stairs further. I had my left foot on a lower stair my right foot on a higher stair and I could not move either leg. I tried again and I fell forward and hit my inner shoulder into the banister on the left. On the third try I was able to get up the stairs and go about my day. Nothing else strange happened for the rest of the day or the next day.

I incurred a herniated disc (L4/L5/S1) 10 months ago, which was diagnosed eight months ago by MRI. I’m not on any medication. I was unable to walk between Christmas 2025 and March 10, 2026. I started Mackenzie therapy in February 2026 and have been able to walk again since March 10. I continued PT through May. I still have intermittent lingering nerve pain at the front of my left foot and in the back of my left Glute/thigh, sometimes calf. I am doing several Mackenzie exercises a day.

Has anyone had this happen before?
Is this a nerve pain related temporary paralysis?

Assisted living plus required add-ons are out of control

Is this a peculiar circumstance or is it typical? I would like to know if there are other options for our 89-year-old mother:

Our mother went to assisted-living a month ago. In less than 24 hours, she was found on the floor and rushed to the hospital. She was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism and a fractured pelvis. She was in the hospital for almost 2 weeks. She is ineligible for blood thinners because of her other medical conditions. The attending suggested DNR and hospice and we made those changes.

Attending also suggested that she go to a nursing home and that she could stay in the hospital until she was admitted, but then the attending changed and that plan was not honored.

In order to return her to assisted living, as a fall risk, the facility required that she have a 24/7 1:1 aide. This service is costing more than $26,000 a month, in addition to more than $5500 for the assisted living room and board.

She was just rejected from the nursing home because it cannot accommodate the one-to-one aid.

This cost is exorbitant. Has anyone else experienced this array of necessities and this cost and how do you get around it or get your parent into a nursing home?

Staying with family is not an option.
