Are schools giving official offers yet?

Hi!

I’m a current tenured DOE teacher looking for a placement closer to home for next school year. I’ve been on a few interviews and demos. The process seems to be going well and I seem well received. I also know in the big picture it’s slightly on the earlier side of the season.

Some schools have expressed they’re working out a few things on their end and will be in touch asap, while others explicitly asked if I applied on open market and said they have a few more demos and are waiting to find out how many lines they have open.

I know budget meetings haven’t happened yet and schools haven’t technically received their budgets for next year and many are waiting on reduced class size funding.

I’m just curious if schools are giving real official offers at this time?

Thanks!

Hey!

I saw on a UFT instagram post that you can still apply to schools on open market, even though there are no vacancies posted yet because budgets have not been released. Source: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DXwt70MSICt/?igsh=eWNldTVucGYxd3pz

I went on open market to give it a shot and it turns out that you can apply to schools even if they don’t have any vacancies posted.

I’m wondering, because I’ve already been scheduled for interviews by emailing Principals and APs, does that mean that they can hire me before a vacancy is posted, or will I have to wait until one is posted to get an official offer?

Hi! I have a question and would really appreciate some guidance.

I’m currently looking for a teaching assignment that is closer to where I live, and at the same time I’m applying to a few teacher assigned roles.

In the scenario where I secure a new teaching position closer to home, but then later in the summer or during the Open Market transfer period I’m offered a teacher assigned role, would I need a release from my new principal to take that position?

I’m not totally sure how this process works or how it’s typically handled, especially if timing overlaps like this.

Any insight or experiences would be really helpful. Thank you!
