Punjabi music is sounding more and more western now, and people think that it might make it more international, but the reality is that folk music and bhangra will be the ones to do that. Even Diljits first appearance didnt get close to this much attention, maybe because that was not unique punjabi sound.
Since those genres are new to foreigners, they will have a reason to listen to it. Punjabi hip-hop gives them no reason to listen to it, since it is basically the same as what they already listen to. Other countries with international music have also become famous for their uniqueness.
