Reread

I’m rereading all the Shadowhunter books currently in chronological order and I’m starting Bane Chronicles now. I wanted to know how integral to the story is it? Will I be missing something if I skip it? There is just so many books and I’m having trouble getting through them all and thought I might skip Bane Chronicles if it won’t disrupt the rest of the series too much.

Advice/motivation needed!

Hi!

I wrote my first romance novel last year and decided to send it off to a development editor while I wrote my second book in the series. I finished the second book no problem and am letting it set while I focus on getting the first one published.

Writing is so easy for me, the words just flow and I can sit down and write a book in a few months or less if I have the time so I figured editing would be just and easy. I’m coming to learn it’s the complete opposite and I’m feeling extremely dejected.

I got the first book back from the editor and I’m going through to change what I want about the story (adjusting plot lines, plot holes, character traits, etc.) and I completely hate the way the editor edited the book and it’s been really hard for me to actually sit down and read through it all making notes and edits as I go along.

Does it get easier? Is there anything I could be doing to help myself out? Any words of advice or encouragement because I’m really getting worried I’m not going to be able to work through this first draft of the first book let alone the second book I have sitting and waiting 😭

Anyways I’d appreciate any ideas to get some motivation going or maybe to make the editing process easier!

Spoiler warning for those who haven’t read City of Heavenly Fire!

When I read the Shadowhunter books years ago I skipped Tales From the Shadowhunter Academy because I couldn’t get into it. It felt hard for me to read since Simon doesn’t have his memories and isn’t with the main cast the whole book. But for my reread I’m determined to read all the books not only the main series and I’m so glad I did!

While reading TFSA it was still difficult to get into but I pushed through and I’m so glad I did! I’m a little over a 100 pages in and really enjoying the book.

As someone who loves Will/Jem/Tessa reading The Whitechapel Fiend chapter has almost made me cry multiple times and can’t believe I missed this the first time I tried to read TFSA!

I’m curious if anyone also felt this way trying to read the book or was it easy for you to get into?

Spoiler warning if you haven’t read City of Heavenly Fire!

Did I read this right, did Jace really bring a condom to a demon dimension?!

“She felt Jace's muscles flex as he reached past her for something, and heard the crackle of foil. Suddenly everything seemed very real; she felt a sudden flash of nerves: This was really happening.”

I read this and was certain I read it wrong but come on a crackle of foil? That’s 1000% a condom right? Why the hell would Jace think he might need that while fighting for their literal lives in a demon world 😭

Like why would he think there would be time for a quicky? Especially since he thought he couldn’t touch Clary because of the literal fire in his veins. Did he always carry one in his gear you know “just in case”?

Did everyone assume the same as I did? And please tell me everyone else found it as ridiculous as I did lol
