Just saying… but imagine how INSANE Kat McNamara’s pink hair would’ve looked with Mia’s Green Arrow suit. We were robbed. Absolute missed opportunity.

The Mortal Instruments book series

I’m posting here, cause I need these complaints out of my system, even if I am just screaming into a void.

Clary is ruining my reread of the book series…

I read TMI when I was younger (late teens) and the only thing that bothered me about the series was how cringy Clary and pre-vampirism Simon were. Now on my first reread since, (in my late 20s) it bothers me to my BONES how childish Clary is.

It’s not just that Cassie Clare tried the “not-like-other-girls” trope for Clary, cause she kinda makes up for it later on, as far as I can remember. (Even though she’s really such a bitch to other girls, especially if they’re taking attention away from her.) It’s how TRULY IMMATURE she acts. It’s not that it would be better if she followed whatever commands the males in her life give her. It’s that she won’t even contemplate that their warnings might have some merit.

Yes, Jace and Alec are bossy as fuck, but they know the lay of the land. And Luke (and even Magnus!) try to warn her about her actions all the time and she just ignores them, like they haven’t lived in the Shadowhunter world YEARS longer than she has!!

Shes so desperate to prove she’s not the child everyone sees her as that she’s constantly fucking shit up. She tries to act tough and just ends up being a hindrance. She tries to act bold and just gets people in trouble. She tries to act mature and just ends up being cringy and rude.

I really want to finish my reread cause I want to be able to enjoy all of the Shadowhunters series, including CC’s newest series coming out soon. But it’s SO HARD to read through Clary and her inner thoughts..

Anyways, thanks for coming to my TED talk!

In the Dark Artifices Cristina, Mark and Kieran all make out together, and Cassandra Clare acts as if this is completely normal

I'm assuming that other people also think that her reaction is weird, but I would like to hear your opinions.

Help! Searching for specific excerpt for my wedding

Hello! I am super new to Reddit but I’m hoping this group can help me! My name is Cole (he/him) and I’m engaged to my fiancé, also a man and I’m looking for a specific passage in one of the books so it can be read at our wedding next fall. The scene im thinking of includes Alec and Magnus dancing. I think it’s in the dark artifices but I cannot remember! If anyone could help point me in the right direction I would appreciate it!

Opinion about the books?

Should I read all the shadowhunter books so far before wicked powers?

I recently saw a copy of better in black in a bookstore and it kind of gave me a feeling of fomo and that I should complete reading the books. For context a few years ago I read the first 3 books of mortal instruments, 2 of the infernal devices, 2 of last hours and 1 of dark artifices. I never finished them because I read/came to know spoilers of them all.( Which kind of discouraged me). So, I do know a fair bit but I am thinking of reading it all before the release of wicked powers even though I know the outcome of events. Should I? Also is it better to read in publication order or the one given by Cassandra clare?

Looking for the deleted Malec fanfic “The Lonely Hearts Hotline”

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to track down the Malec AU fanfic “The Lonely Hearts Hotline” (the one where Alec works as a phone operator and the story is surprisingly wholesome). It used to be on AO3, but it seems to have been deleted or made private. I’m looking for:

any backup (PDF, ePub, saved chapters)

Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you!

LOS: Cristina and Jaime

currently rereading LOS and what I've been wondering since my first read: why the hell does Cristina just forgive Jaime and they never address the things he said to Diego that Cristina just overheard and made her run away?? I mean I get that she was worried and is just relieved to be seeing him again but like, shouldn't this whole thing be addressed at some point?

Lord of Shadows Ending *Spoilers*

I just finished LoS and I'm so sad about >!Livv, I didn't see a point to her death at all. Out of all the characters that could have been killed off, the Blackthorns deserve better. !< It has put me off finishing the rest of the series.

Ages

So I'm doing some type of re read/listen, and juat had a minor "mental breakdown" over how old I'm and how long these books been out. At the time the first book released in my country, 2010, I was 16/17. I'm currently listening to City of Ashes, or however the second books its called in English, and Clary just said Luke is 38. I'm 32, 33 in October, now. How funny is it that I'm closer to the adults age now than the main characters. And the books are still being released. It's been a loooong journey.

Anyways, how old were yall when yall started reading this beloved pyramid schem? And for those who didn't started with her, how it felt to get into this world and finding out there was 7485893 more books to buy? Personally I don't think I would've bought them it I started "late". Books are quite expensive here, Brasil, so having 20+ to buy would be crazy LOL. Like even starting "with her", since the release here was years later, I'm still missing some, Magnus chronicles and the codex, and the "manga" but the manga didn't released here so I don't really count those.

Opinion on the author

Hello everyone,

Truth to be told I haven't read the books but seen the show many times and the movie and I am a big fan and was looking into getting tattoos about the show ever since I watched is as a teenager and now im thinking about doing it for my 21 birthday soon and was looking for some advice.

is the author problematic or gives that kind of a vibe I don't want to get the tattoo just for the author to ruin the books or their reputation.

I would also appreciate all the tattoo suggestions/ photos you guys would show

Thanks for the help in advance

Black Volume of the Dead in Lord of Shadows?

Hi you guys, I'm currently rereading The Dark Artifices and I'm falling in love with it once again. BUT some points are leaving me a little confused: what exactly is the Seelie Queen's deal with the Black Volume of the Dead? Like I know why she needs ist but somehow it doesn't make any sense to me how she thinks Julian and the others are going to execute her plan.. like she says that she's gonna join the nephilim in a war against the Elder King but only if they hand her the Black Volume but obviously they gotta do that in secret because if the clave knew about that they would 100% try to keep that book away from her, no? And still, Diana tells Jia about this whole plan and how the Seelie Queen is going to help and join them even though she doesn't mention the Black Volume at all and they don't even possess it yet. So what exactly is the plan here? What would Diana tell Jia if the Seelie Queen didn't get the book and suddenly, she doesn't want to help the nephilim anymore?

This all seems so poorly planned, or is it just me? Shouldn't have Diana waited until the book was handed over to the Seelie Queen?

Question about Faerie

So reading QoAaD now and at the point I'm at Oban is the King of the Unseelie Court. Earlier in the book I remember The Unseelie King had to tolerate Annabel as she knew his name (Arawn) and be also could take the black volume of the dead. So trying to say if knowing the Kings name is such a problem for whatever reason would it be trouble for Oban to be King as people know his name or is there some reasonable explanation on why its different for him or something. Feel I'm misunderstanding something a little.

Confusion about Jem visitation

Growing up I only read TMI and TID, but I decided to try Chain of Gold. The kids calling him “Uncle Jem” is bothering me because I got the impression that Jem only saw the family(for lack of another word) when he said goodbye in the last few chapters of Clockwork Princess, when Will died, and during his and Tessa’s yearly meeting.
But now I’m a chapter into Chain of Gold and getting the impression he’s just part of the next generation’s life? Did I assume incorrectly or did Cassie Clare decide to change things? TIA!

Jumping back into the Fandom

Alright, after years of watching Clockwork Angel collect dust (literally years, the last book I read from this series was COHF a year after it came out), I’ve decided to jump back into the series. I watched S1 when the show came out, decide that I wasn’t a fan (although I’m not one of those Book-only warriors I just couldn’t get passed the acting) and in the midst of that got sucked into the Vampire Diaries fandom.

Now, in my early 20s I decided that maybe my elementary/middle school self was on the right track and I’m on a journey of treating my inner child. I’m going to start reading Clockwork Angel and my goal is to finish TID by November? Hopefully that’s realistic.

Funny enough, I was rereading old fanfic on FFN (haven’t made the jump to Ao3, I’m still stuck in 2014) and I remember that this fandom has had some of the greatest fanfic to ever be produced, which made me find this Reddit to see what’s been going on post the show. Did a quick deep dive, apparently Sebastian has a kid? And Thule is a thing? There’s another Herondale?? Nevertheless I am excited to rejoin!

Just wanted to express this to someone—no one in my personal life would have any idea of what I’m talking about

Slight inconsistency I noticed

I was looking through “A History of Notable Shadowhunters & Denizens of Downworld” and noticed that Kieran’s eyes are different than they are portrayed in “Better in Black.” In AHoNS&DoD, his left eye is black and right one is silver. But in BiB, his left eye is silver and the right one is black.

Pagan Deities

So I've been wondering something about the Mortal Instruments Universe. Do the gods of the ancient pagan religions also exist in that universe? We know angels and demons obviously exist, along with tons and tons of mythical creatures, so maybe gods like Zeus and Odin or Ra could also exist. What do you all think?

Did I miss something?

I am currently reading The City of Heavenly Fire, almost half-way through. Sebastian just kidnapped Magnus, Luke, Jocelyn and Raphael. However,

in City of Lost Souls, there is a scene when Sebastian tells Clary that the Fearie Queen was listening to her conversations with Simon and purposley led her to the rings. So why didn't she say anything to others? Nobody knows yet that the fearies have betrayed them. She seems to have forgotten. Did I miss something?
