Top Five Couples in TSC?

  1. Wessa – Soulmates in every sense. The blueprint.
  2. Blackstairs – I'm a huge sucker for friends to lovers. Their bond is unmatched.
  3. Herondaisy – Probably controversial, but idk, they're adorable.
  4. Malec – No explanation needed.
  5. Clace – Chaotic but passionate lol. They'll always be iconic.

A Sea Change major plot hole? That, or I'm crazy

Spoilers for the whole plot and especially the murder mystery outcome

I just read all of A Sea Change in one sitting, so if this question is stupid and I missed something, that's absolutely possible. I am tired and have been up all night. please let me know, I am so confused

So, when Matthew and Sylvain inspect Bart's body, Matthew notes that he was drained of blood and his throat was cut. Matthew says, "Someone made this slash to hide the puncture wounds from fangs."

Which leads them to the conclusion that the killer was a vampire.

at the end, Melody, a new vampire, confesses to killing her brother Bart in self-defense, saying he attacked her and tried to kill her to steal her necklace. She says, "I snapped his neck and ran to Virgil and the others afterward, not knowing what to do," and Matthew says, "So you had to hide the body. You threw him overboard, hoping his death would be written off as a suicide"

But if Melody snapped his neck, there obviously wouldn't be a wound. and she obviously wouldn't have created one after he was dead to obscure what happened. That would be in direct contrast to wanting his death to look like a suicide.

And there's the fact that the neck wound is what led Matthew and Sylvain to know the killer was a vampire in the first place. But if Melody never bit him or cut his neck, Matthew and Slyvain wouldn't have come to the conclusion it was a vampire at all.

Am I missing something huge here?? Or is this a massive plot hole

I even thought I knew how it would end. I figured Matthew realized the vampires didn't know he and Sylvain had inspected the body, so he was only pretending to believe Melody's self defense story to prolong his and Slyvain's lives long enough to get to Constantinople, at which time the institute would have sent a group to the dock to take action, as Matthew requested in his fire message earlier on. And then when that did happen, Melody and the rest of the vampire theater company would say, "But you swore on Raziel's name not to harm us, or cause action to be taken against us" (as they do right after the confession), and Matthew would say "I did. But these shadowhunters are here due to a fire message I sent before I made that oath. I haven't taken any action against you since then, "

And then he'd hit them with a "you can't have thought I really believed you! You're actors, I know when someone is putting on a show!" And he'd reveal he inspected the body without them knowing, so once Melody said she snapped his neck, he knew it couldn't be true due to the neck wound. Things weren't adding up, but he pretended to go along with it so he and Sylvain wouldn't be killed in the costume room.

That's what I thought would happen, and then it just ended after Melody confessed, and Matthew and Slyvain said they believed them and wouldn't take action against them. They never even followed up on Matthew's earlier fire message to the institute.

I'm either way off base, or there's a massive plot hole I can't seem to find anyone else mentioning

Theory for Wicked Powers

SPOILERS FOR CHAIN OF THORNS AND QUEEN OF AIR AND DARKNESS

Honestly so excited for the Wicked Powers and decided to reread The Last Hours. I am on Chain of Thorns and came across something very interesting.

When the Merry Thieves are discussing about Cordelia and the paladin situation Christoper mentions about Edom. Now it says that Edom used to have Shadowhunters. A captial city called Idumea which makes me wonder if this could become part of the Wicked Powers. We know they are locked out of Idris and the hub is now New York. Yes they were destroyed by demons but that they were wiped out centuries ago because they were too proud to work with Downworlders. They didn't have Silent Brothers or Iron Sisters.

This could potentially be a place if they can edricate the demons hence why shadowhunters ain't needed. It could also become a place for them as technology and places are there due to shadowhunters being oresent in Edom before they were wiped out. The place could change when the demons have gone. It could also be a place where Downworlders and Shadowhunters have their own world. Not just isolating themselves. Not having to fight back for Idris.

This could be very far fetched 😅 but honestly I saw this rereading and realised it could really sums up the whole story.

Better In Black (Paperback) Cover Variations?

Hey all, I was wondering why the versions of Better in Black (printed 2025, 2026) have covers with differing coloring and typeset? Is there something special in the first or second printing? The white gold lettering is from 2025 and the pink lettering is from 2026. I just would like to know so I know which one to purchase. Thank you guys!

After TDA, the parabatai oath hits different

It gives me goosebumps. And not the appropriate kind lol

I don't read smutty stuff for the most part (no judgements, just not for me), so the intimacy of that scene between Emma and Jules was probably the most erotic thing I've read in a while. And it was so beautiful. So now I shiver any time I read any part of it in any of the other books. And then I remember it's not supposed to make me feel like that and I'm a serious grown-up lady, and I feel a bit embarrassed.

Anyone else?

ETA: also, I experienced this scene in audio format. Narrated by James mf Marsters (Spike from Buffy), so...I am undone.

Question about Jem on a reread

Currently on a reread in publication order to get ready for TWP and I’m in the middle of CoLS. I didn’t get the opportunity to read them in publication order the first time but for any of you who did, was it obvious that Brother Zachariah was Jem? Like were there any theories at time about who he was? Or was it a shock at the end of Clockwork Princess?

Question on Kickstarter

Hi guys, I recently purchased a full set (overpriced, but it is what it is) and was surprised to hear that not everyone got all of this add-ons as pictured.

I really wanted the “So Your House is Cursed” pamphlet as well as the pictures from Kraig’s Retirement party but most sellers confirmed they don’t have it. Was it only given out with specific tiers in the Kickstarter?

And if anyone is looking to sell theirs, I’m here! 🥹🥹

Idk if this is unpopular or not: Jem and Tessa would have been better platonic

Hey so this probably has been discussed before but I just have to ask if y’all ever feel like Jem and Tessa had a more platonic vibe to their relationship. Just hear me out.

The reason I think this is that I feel like in TID Tessa would have not considered Jem as more than a friend if he hadn’t started pursuing her. Like being romantically involved with Jem wasn’t even on her mind until the kiss scene in bedroom in book 2. Even when kissing him she always thought about Will. And there’s more to that…

I never doubted that she loved Jem but I just never bought her romantic feelings for him. Even when Jem asked to marry her, her inner monologue and reaction felt like she was doing it out of obligation or her desire to make him happy. I mean Tessa said herself she wanted to protect him or shield him(smth along the lines of that). It’s kind of a strange thought to be having abt someone ur marrying in my opinion.

Also Tessa literally slept with Will moments after she found out Jem was "dead." I totally understand why she did this, as she and Will were scared, heartbroken, and basically accepted that they were going to die, so they sought comfort in each other. But if she was that deeply in love Jem, I don't think she would immediately sleep with her fiance's soul brother immediatley after hearing about his death. Again no hate to Tessa, I do understand her POV.

Overall I just always saw them as best friends with mutual respect and understanding for each other. Anyways no hate to any of these characters cuz I truly do love them as individuals- it’s just the dynamic I have an issue with. Let me know what y’all think.

When does the cohort fall

So im reading TDA for the first time an its easily my least favorite so far not because I dont agree with the real world issues it addresses but because I liked getting lost in this fantasy world an forgetting the problems of the real world an with politics being the main issue in it its almost impossible to do that, Also I F***ing hate the cohort an zara so getting to my question how long into queen of air and darkness do they get arrested or are removed from power? I know something like that happens already but im hoping its not far into the book because im struggling to get through it everytime they open their mouths
