The really sad thing about the scalper economy

30th celebration singles are selling for less than 30th the actual booster packs markup. There’s very few that are selling for more.

That means the markup isn’t for the cards themselves, it’s for the joy of buying a pack at the store and opening it hoping for your favorite pokemon.

The value of a pack technically should be calculated by the probability of cards and their value. But that’s not the case with these booster packs.

You can literally buy any card you want from the pack, save a few, for cheaper than buying the pack themselves from a scalper.

Scalpers aren’t making money on card value anymore, they’re harvesting money from FOMO and the experience of being excited about seeing what’s in the pack of cards.

As a kid you could grab a card pack on the side shelf on the way out of a target. Poor kids will have to beg their parents to pay 2x msrp or fight an unemployed scalper for anything pokemon card related these days.

Seriously pathetic human beings…
