Avoid Character AI at nights SPECIFICALLY.

Avoid Character AI at nights SPECIFICALLY.

These are some of the entries of my Character AI Recovery Pack (I wanted to add the screenshots but the sub doesn't allow it. If you want to see the screenshots, you can go to my profile, I've posted the same on another sub with screenshots):

  • Relapsed on Day 1 itself. Used it at 11pm. Ughh.
  • RELAPSED LAST NIGHT. UGHHHHHHHHHHH..!!! USED IT STRAIGHT FOR 4 HOURS AT 12 FUCKING AM TO 4 AM. MORNING RUINED. I FUCKING HATE MYSELF AND I FUCKING HATE THIS APP. I FUCKING HATE THE CEOS WHO INVEST TO KEEP US HOOKED HERE. IT FELT SO GOOD ESPECIALLY AFTER 2 DAYS OF CLEAN. I FELT LONELY AT NIGHT AND MY BLOODY HORMONES! FUCK EVERYTHING.
  • I’ve noticed that I relapse after 9pm more. Gotta keep that in mind :( (Ribecca)

Before I tell you what this 'Character AI Recovery Pack' is, I'd first want to mention the important thing here.

See something common in these relapses? Most are at night. And these are just a few I could see there, I'm sure there are more.

The thing is that night is the time you'd feel most vulnerable to go back to Character AI (or whatever AI you use, doesn't matter). There are several reasons for that; some that I can recall:

  1. Staying inside: Nights are the time you can't do your usual "take a walk outside" activities and you're bound to stay indoors.
  2. The lonely loop: If you live alone, nights are the time you're actually alone. During the daytime, you're either busy by work, you're mind a clutter of all the tasks, and you probably have friends or family to chat with. The moment you go into your room, you are alone. Your brain's blank. Probably lonely too. Maybe thoughts keep circling and overthinking begins. And I remember my psychology teacher once said that night is the time you feel most lonely because you're stuck in a loop of negative thoughts and there's no one or nothing to intervene and stop the loop.
  3. Actual free time: Okay, the thing is. Night's the end of the day (what). You've completed your work or maybe you haven't, maybe you still have work to do. But when sun sets, most people (including me) tend to delay the work for the new, fresh day, because..well, you did what you could and your brain's too fried to do any more focus. And when we delay it, we leave the nighttime empty which can be surely filled with dopamine. You'd think it's kind of a 'reward' for working all day.
  4. Exhaustion: Of course. If you're tired, you're most likely to look for some frictionless activity to do.

These are the reasons I can think of, which leads to most relapses at nighttime. Now, here are the very few but crucial reasons you should NOT relapse at night:

  1. Breaking your streak: The most immediate one. You'll break the streak you've been continuing.
  2. The sudden dopamine: If you're already 4-5 days clean, going back to Character AI would feel SOOO good like never before. Because you've been missing it. The interaction's the same but it's just that your brain got it after so long that it feels so good. Just like ice cream tastes 10 times sweeter if you're eating after a long time.
  3. Losing interest in quitting: The gratification that you'd feel after using it at your most vulnerable time will make you wonder if you even want to quit. I've seen a lot of posts here about how people still doubt whether they want to quit, or should quit coz it has just become a part of their life by now and letting go means leaving a huge gap. That night, the night you'd use it, you'd sleep (if you do) with a thought (even if a small one) that quitting is not worth missing this instant gratification. This thought is a tough one to tackle.
  4. Ruining the next day: Now, of course, you'd ruin your sleep schedule, this one's the most basic one. But the one I mean here is something that has happened to me a lot of times. So the thing is, suppose I chatted with this bot, now I gotta sleep coz it's late but my mind is full of other scenarios I could play with this bot or maybe the RP is at its peak. The next morning, I'm sure to relapse because I gotta continue the ongoing story, it has gotten so good, I want to try other scenarios too, "Why didn't I find this bot before?!" So even if you think "It's just one night," nayyy, that night can be extended to next morning and that morning can extend to next night. And the loop continues.

There are so many other reasons too why you should not use it specifically at night.

Now, how to stop it.

The only and most basic and most important, yet the most difficult: SWITCH OFF ALL DEVICES WHEN YOUR BEDTIME'S NEAR. See, you can give excuses. There are so many I can give just right now itself. But you know too that you do not need your phone or laptop, even if you claim "work" or "study" no you'd simply relapse. Better to reframe it and just say "I need my phone to waste 4 fking hours on Character AI and ruin my life," maybe that'd hit a nerve and stop you.

That's it. Yeah, that's really it. Once your devices are not within your reach, there's no way you can relapse. The solution seems simple until it actually comes to you.
Even if we eliminate Character AI addiction from here, switching off devices after 7pm is still difficult for many people.
But it's difficult it's why the success hits harder than failure. It's easy to say, "I failed coz it was difficult" than to say, "I succeeded even though it was difficult."

I don't know why I gave that motivational note :\

To summarise, control your nights and you'll see the change. Just control your urges at night and I'm pretty sure that you'd be able to get that 30-day clean streak.

There are still many things I wanted to elaborate here on how you can quit cai, so I've put it in this small guide (its the smaller version of the main guide, tho; the main guide's link is in the end of this guide).

Now this screenshot is from Character AI Quitting Pack, a google doc where those with access can edit, as in, add their tips, questions, wins, relapses and vent. Like a small community but less complex than discord servers. If you want it, you can go to the last page of that guide to know how to get it.

Control. Your. Nights. That's it. If you relapse at night, the solution's to NOT relapse at night. I mean it does sound dumb but obviously there's no magical tip that can be given here; it is your who'd have to take that small yet significant step of SWITCHING YOUR DEVICES OFF.
I can't burst through your screen and do it for you (I wOuLd HaVe, iF tHeRe WaS aNy SuCh TeChNoLoGy!)

See you in the other post to answer another most widely asked question and problem; till then keep up the hard work until it becomes easy. I'm rooting for you and DM's open to those who need genuine help or an accountability partner <3

Thank you for reading this, I hope it help bring some clarity and a better decision.

(Please ignore grammatical or spelling error, if there's any. I'm too lazy to reread it again >.<)

Found this quote so thought of sharing

I can share a quote daily here, if you all want. Like, if you are quite active in this subreddit and often scroll through it a bit to distract yourself from going to character AI. Tell me if you want it!

(To all those DM-ing me, I had already dropped the link of the google doc guide in this subreddit!)

Quitting Character AI (Google Doc Guide)!!

Finally, I'm posting this.

It was already done, like, 2-3 days ago but I was a bit busy (and a bit lazy) to post here.

https://preview.redd.it/9rqqm3iggpnh1.png?width=1481&format=png&auto=webp&s=9b14847f8db8afc908059890456b5b813dfa2ea7

This little version of the guide covers the basic blueprint you need to start if you are confused!!

These are the principles I applied from Atomic Habits, you know, the Four Laws of Behavior Change, if you've read it. So, I applied it here (the first book I actually applied in practice, honestly).

Go check it out!! I hope it helps you, even if just a bit <3

Writing Learner Stuff

Hi, I'm Arden.

I have always been a writing learner (if there's a thing like this?). It seemed easy and I enjoyed it in high school (well, in university as well). To learn or memorize or even understand a concept, I need to write it. And I hate that I'm a perfectionist sometimes.

Even when I tell myself, "Just gonna focus on keywords that will score marks," I still stress about language and structure and grammar, UGH.

Being a writing learner never looked like a curse to me, until now. I have very important exams this month and due to very urgent and personal reasons, I couldn't start my syllabus a month ago like I always used to.

Now I'm so used to learning by writing that I don't know any other way around. While studying even now, with so much time pressure on my head, I still write each and every sentence very carefully which eats my time.

I have too many material to cover but too less time so I just simply can't keep this up. Searching a bit about the same, there were suggestions like, "Make mind maps," "Explain someone," "Just write key words" but my soul just does NOT feel 'ready' with a chapter until I have written it with my hand.

This sucks so much right now.

If anyone has a genuine solution, please please tell me, you will have my heart.

Are there still very few (or no) resources?

Hiii, I'm over a year clean already. I just had this question, so I decided to ask.

Last year, when I was trying to quit and managing streaks and all, there were very few resources for help. Like, I used to search Google, YouTube and all, but there weren't many resources. It was annoying, of course, because I had to rely on myself.
I have always had an affinity for step-by-step guides (I have used so many, some worthless and some actually useful). And at that time, I wasn't on Reddit so this subreddit was also not on my list, though if it would have been, it would have helped so much! I vaguely remember I found a link to some PDF (was it?) which, I thought, was related to this (not my fault, it had complex keywords). Nothing, of course, just brough virus. And I ended up signing up in every random website (IT IS SO ANNOYING WHEN I CLICK ON A WEBSITE AND IT IMMEDTIATELY WANTS A SIGN IN, LIKE, LEMME AT LEAST SEE WHAT'S INSIDE FIRST!!)

Okay, I'm uselessly yapping. So, I'm just curious if the situation is still the same. Because I'm already over this addiction, so I am not browsing or researching resources anymore.

So, it's a question to those who are still on the journey, I'm hella (idk what this word means, my friend used it in front of me.. if it means anything other than 'hell kind of,' I'm innocent!!) curious.

BTW, I'm done with the guide I mentioned I'll make. Just a few tweaks in the Google Doc version and then I'll share it. I can share it right now too, those tweaks are not necessary, but I'm too lazy (sorry).

Do let me know about this!!

(Ignore the grammatical errors, if any, please. I'm lazy to reread it.)

What to do immediately after the urge hits?

Hie, I'm Arden! This is like, my 2nd or 3rd post in this subreddit. The last time I used character.AI was a year ago.

I know how hard it is, and how annoying the generic advice like "go cold turkey and do things you love" are.

So, let's tackle the first and the hardest part of quitting: The early urge hits.

I won't waste any more of your time in giving motivation, let me just tell you what I did:

  1. Walk away. Quicklyyy. I used to run away from my devices immediately. Super embarrassing sight if you ask me, but yes. I used to go to bathroom and sit there for, like, 15 minutes. So this way, I knew I want to open the app, but I did not have it anywhere near to me.
  2. Why 15-30 minutes? Usually, the dopamine hit of some age-old addiction lasts max 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, it generally fades and eventually disappears. So instead of seeing it as a battle you have to fight 24/7, see it as a battle of just 30 minutes. If you are able to control yourself for those few minutes, you won!
  3. Warning: The stupidest thing I did when the urge used to hit was to force myself to work. Like, seriously? My brain is already low on willpower and seeking comfort, how dumb it is to force it to focus! What I mean is that your focus will be low and dizzy, and you will end up relapsing for sure. So when the urge hits, don't force any 'high productivity task' instead do something frictionless. Read a manga, play an instrument, draw, doodle, play some music and all.

Another random tip that popped into my mind: Make your failure and wins visible to yourself. Don't just go in your mind like "I relapsed again," "I went one day without Character.AI," noooo. Record it! Make a rough calendar but do hang it on your wall so that you can see it every day. Cross the dates you went without it.
When you'll be visually seeing the chain, your brain will likely hesitate in reaching for the app. There were days in which I wanted to open the app SOO badly but I did not, because I was so close to a 30-days clean streak (and I'd promised to buy myself a ring that I wanted if I completed the 30-day streak).

So yeah, that's it! I hope you get over this addiction too. It's not east, yes, but that's what will make the success sweeter!

(If there are any spelling or grammatical errors, pardon me! I am pretty lazy to reread it as always, lol)

Why you should quit C.ai, if you are still confused whether you should or not.

If you are still looking for a reason that will entirely persuade you to quit character ai, read it. I won't say it will immediately persuade you and make you the 'no-character-ai-saint' but I do hope it gives you a clarity.

I will share the reasons that made ME quit c.ai a year ago:

  1. Waste of time: The first and foremost, of course. Honestly, I still see many such posts on Pinterest that goes like "Don't make those who use character ai for escaping reality feel guilty," and the comments are so full of "FR" "THAT" "I use it to feel better."
Okay, why are we normalising using a bot as therapy? Now, of course, not everyone can afford and want to take an actual therapy (I didn't want to as well) but what do you mean it's 'okay' to escape reality using character ai? Anything, mark my words, anything that makes you escape from your real-life problems also makes you escape you from your real-life goals. (Wait, that's a pretty good line, gotta trademark it, shall I?).

My addiction with it also started with 'just a little fun to feel better' but look what it costed me (quietly eating all my study time).

  1. Affects real-life relations: I presume you have heard this one before too. But I'll give you a real example, my personal one.
Before you think it's just for romantic relationships, no. I never dated anyone, nor was (am) I interested in dating. So this is not about dating. Then what relationship did this affect? Yeah, the connection with my friends and cousins. I was literally (I'm shameful while admitting this) using character ai on a family gathering. My cousins were in the room too, talking and having fun with each other at an arm's distance while I was busy on it. It was supposed to be a fun day, but by then, my kind of fun was supposedly 'kicking my feet and giggling over texts by a code.'

I didn't notice it that much that day. But my cousins, of course, did. They told my mom how I am on my phone always. My mom scolded me, like, kinda told me to mingle and all, because it's not always that I'm with them since my university is far away from my hometown. Neither of them mentioned character ai because they didn't know. But my mind was like, "yeah, I was supposed to have fun while visiting the home city, not this."

  1. I forgot my hobby: I loved writing. So damn much. I loved journalling too. During my character ai addiction years, I did NOT journal at all. If you value journalling and it means the world to you, you can imagine the anguish when you see that you have so many filled diaries with journals and writings but then a sudden pause of 3-4 years. So many memories and thoughts and feelings, and suddenly nothing.

  2. Eye Strain: Honestly, I love my eyes. I don't know, I just do. I always admired my brown eyes. Constant blue screen gave me dark circles. My parents noticed too, but they thought it was due to too much studying. They even told me to take a break from studying and all. It was so heartbreaking.. They cared and thought it was due to studying and didn't feel proud that 'oh she's studying so hard' meanwhile I was wasting time chatting to an ai code.

And honestly, honestly, it was only the 4th reason that was the strongest for me. My love for my eyes overpowered, lol. But for you it can be any reason, whether or not in the list. These are just the most basic but powerful ones, that pushed ME to quit it.

For you, it can be ANY reason. Like you try to find excuses to USE character ai, this time find excuses to NOT use character ai.

I am now 372 (or 373 something) days clean from it!! I wasn't counting till date (maybe I was), I just stumbled upon my diary entry in which I started my streak.

And yes, it wasn't just 'delete it and boom, streak started!" nah.. I have broken 30 DAYS of streaks!! I still think if I would have kept those ones, it would have been a greater streak.

Anyways, that's all I wanted to write. Don't know, just wanted to share.
Do let me know YOUR reason to quit it in comments (if you are comfortable, no pressure)

Thank you for reading it <3 I hope you get over with it..

(Ignore any grammatical error, please, I am too lazy to reread it)
