August 23 elections in Kazakhstan, are you planning to vote?

I came across an article about the upcoming elections in Kazakhstan and was curious what people here think.

August 23 will be the election for Kazakhstan’s new single-chamber parliament, the Kurultai, following the recent constitutional changes.

The article talks to several foreign experts about why the election could be an important moment for Kazakhstan, but what interested me more is what happens after the election. A new political structure on paper is one thing, but how much difference it actually makes in practice is another question.

I’m not trying to argue for or against the reforms. Honestly, I’m still trying to understand what people in Kazakhstan themselves expect from the new system.

For those who follow Kazakhstan:

Are you planning to vote on August 23? And do you think moving to a single-chamber parliament will actually make a noticeable difference?

Would be interested to hear different perspectives, especially from people living in Kazakhstan.

The stars of The Royal Ballet are coming to Astana for Swan Lake

Astana is about to get a pretty special ballet event.

On September 11 and 12, Swan Lake will be performed at Astana Opera with Vadim Muntagirov and Fumi Kaneko, principal dancers of London’s The Royal Ballet.

Both are major names in the ballet world. Muntagirov is a Benois de la Danse laureate and a multiple Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards winner. Kaneko has also received the Critics’ Circle award for Best British Dancer and has won international ballet competitions.

There is also a nice detail here: Muntagirov and Kaneko are married and have already performed Swan Lake together at Covent Garden in London.

The performance will open the Ballet Globe international festival and the new theatrical season at Astana Opera.

It is always interesting to see how a familiar classic changes depending on the dancers performing it. Swan Lake has been staged countless times, but the chemistry between the two leads can completely change the feeling of the production.

Would you go to see Swan Lake if two Royal Ballet principals were performing it in your city?

Astana hosted the Future Games, and apparently the esports crowd was seriously impressed

I came across some reactions from international players who took part in the Future Games 2026 in Astana, Kazakhstan, and honestly, the comments were more positive than I expected.

Luis Daniel Rosales from Allcates gave the tournament organization a straight 10/10. He specifically mentioned the stage setup, lighting, giant screens, visual effects and equipment, saying the whole thing felt like a world-class tournament.

PUBG player James Giezen, aka TGLTN, also highlighted the technical production.

But what I found more interesting was that the reactions weren't only about the competition itself.

Team Falcons coach Owen Monahan said his team was walking around Astana almost every evening. He described the city as clean, modern and beautiful, and said the hospitality was one of the best they had experienced while traveling for tournaments.

That's actually a pretty interesting side effect of hosting esports events. People arrive for the competition, but they end up experiencing the city too.

According to the organizers, broadcasts were available in more than 150 countries and territories, across 289 broadcast and streaming channels. By August 10, the broadcasts had passed 530 million views.

So yeah, Kazakhstan apparently decided that if you're going to host a futuristic sports event, you might as well go all in.

What do you guys think about this kind of event combining traditional sports, esports and technology?

Kazakhstan just got 1,900 AI film submissions from 90+ countries

This is actually pretty interesting.

Astana AI Film Festival in Kazakhstan has received around 1,900 submissions from more than 90 countries. The biggest number of entries came from the US, followed by India, with Kazakhstan itself in third place.

The festival is focused specifically on films made with AI, not just movies that used AI for a few visual effects.

There is also a $1 million prize pool, with $450,000 going to the winner of the main competition.

The theme this year is “The Future Worth Living In”, and films have to be between 3 and 10 minutes long.

The festival itself is happening in Astana this October.

Honestly, I'm curious to see what kind of films make it into the final selection. AI filmmaking is moving ridiculously fast.

Kazakhstan's students just won six medals at an international science olympiad. Is STEM becoming one of the country's biggest strengths?

Kazakhstan's school team has returned home with six medals from an international science olympiad, continuing a trend of strong performances by young students in global academic competitions.

It feels like achievements in mathematics, physics and other STEM fields are becoming more common every year, which makes me wonder whether Kazakhstan is quietly building a really strong talent pipeline.

Do you think these international olympiads actually translate into long-term innovation and economic growth, or are they mostly individual success stories?

What's the most beautiful place in Kazakhstan in your opinion?

For me it's Katon-Karagay. I've seen a lot of places, but that area just feels different. The mountains, forests, rivers, and how untouched everything feels... it's easily my favorite.

What about you? Drop the place you think everyone should visit at least once. Even better if you have your own photos. I'd love to see shots of hidden spots, crazy landscapes, or just places that really surprised you.

I'm always looking for new places to add to my travel list.

Saw a similar composition online a while back and thought, \"I need to find this view myself.\" Finally got the shot.

Kazakhstan's population keeps growing. What do you think the country will look like in 10–20 years?

I came across an article saying Kazakhstan's population has now surpassed 20.5 million. Apparently, most of the growth is happening in Almaty, Astana, Shymkent, and the southern regions, while some northern regions are still losing population.

What do you guys think? Is this a positive trend overall? Will the country be able to keep up with housing, infrastructure, and jobs if the population keeps growing like this?

Curious to hear opinions from people living in different parts of Kazakhstan.
