What are these cameras for?

What are these cameras for?

Noticed it on the way to Gundaroo Drive, there’s about 2 of them, and I think there was a third, but it got re-located, or entirely removed.

Are they designed to keep an eye on the roads for animals, or are they some sort of surveillance device to track drivers?

Are Australian Universities Becoming Degree Mills?

Is anyone else seeing a huge increase in students who are getting their degrees left, right, and centre like it’s nothing? Especially in the IT sector?

There’s so many students that aren’t even putting in a second of their attention into their course, they rush using AI at the last moment, and pass like the assessment was nothing.

At the start of this year, there was a tutorial group of about 20 students, and they had to program a website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, they were given about 3 weeks, and nobody paid attention in that class, on the last week of the assessment being due, everyone hopped onto chatGPT, and got the AI to do all the heavy-lifting, when the grades were handed out, almost everyone in that tutorial class got a 85% or above.

I didn’t go out of my way to use AI, and did the work myself, I scored a whopping 52%, barely passing, and these motherfuckers were laughing at me because of my poor grade, their work looked like a 20+ year skilled web-developer programmed their website, I told them they were gonna get caught, but low-and-behold, not a single tutor or lecturer emailed them asking for a interview.

I feel so stupid for not using AI now, because I’m slowly starting to catch that these unis are just here for the money, and are doing the bare minimum to get students to do the right thing.

Literally this week I had a tutor who told the whole tutorial class to use AI, saying “take shortcuts, enjoy your time here, don’t be stressed”. This is the same tutor who also said they’re working on earning their PHD, saying “it’s my 4th year now, I’m almost done, and barely know anything, but I’m here for the enjoyment, and so should you.” Fucking insane.

Has it always been like this in the past too?

WARNING: Google Gemini can still make a summary of your “private” Reddit account

Even if your account is set to “hiding all posts”, Google Gemini is able to access your posts, and create a massive indexed list of everything you’ve said, it takes Gemini about 24 hours to update each time, and the worst part is you only need to type “[Insert Reddit username here]”, and “Reddit” at the end, and Google Gemini will pull all sorts of information from your account.

I learned this the hard way on my previous account, when I received weird messages from accounts I didn’t recognise, or interact with, and they were pulling all sorts of comments I made with the exact seconds to it.

I later wiped the account and everything with it, but reddit unfortunately retains the title of every post you ever made, and keeps it there, even several years after it’s been deleted.

And Google Gemini sometimes doesn’t update on time (or doesn’t update at all), so it assumes the account is still there, and continues to pull old information you thought were deleted, but are still able to be recovered by its AI system to be summarised.

Stay safe, just warning everyone about it.

What’s it like living next to WSI or Sydney City airport?

Is it loud? Like lots of planes flying past your house? I was in Tempe a while ago, and the planes flying past was just insanely loud, so loud that I couldn’t even hear the people I was talking with.

But what about the people living near WSI? Is it loud there too? How often do the planes fly past?

ATTENTION: If you're seeing changes to this Subreddit, it's because we've done some major backend updates (Please Read Carefully)

Another moderator announcement to announce we've done some huge changes to how this Subreddit normally functions. Read below 👇👇👇:

We've introduced some new rules regarding posting/contributing, as listed below:

  1. URL Shortners are NOT ALLOWED, posts will get auto-removed from our filters.
  2. If you notice your post goes straight away into a pending state, or appears to be seemingly removed, our broad and robust filter system may have picked something up, and we are looking into it, if it remains deleted, or in this pending state, then an automated message should be generated as to why your post has been removed.
  3. New accounts or accounts with low/negative Karma will need to build some more time for their account to age to contribute here, accounts with low or negative Karma will not be able to participate, until their Karma is fixed. WE CANNOT TELL YOU WHAT THE REQUIREMENTS ARE, SO PLEASE DO NOT MESSAGE US.
  4. Because of the amount of users that participate here, we've purposefully made our filters aggresive (for the time-being) in an effort to stop trolls, so your post/comment may get picked up by our filters on accident, and may get removed, and we will try our best ASAP to restore it, we cannot tell you what words trigger our filters for moderation reasons.
  5. Our flairs have been updated so that flairs are now required in order to post, and we've re-edited, and re-organised the flairs for a better navigation for your convenience.
  6. For the time-being, we've disabled photo, and video uploads after our filters picked up some content from some specific individuals that will no longer be able to contribute here. However, GIFS should be allowed here, if not, please reach out to us so we can fix it.

Moving on to more lesser relevant announcements:

  1. We've started a new segment on the Subreddit called "This Week Wrapped Up", it's a large mega-thread where all the biggest headlines from the Subreddit that week are placed into this one giant post, where all users can contribute freely on there, it's a new segment we've introduced, so you will see changes to it as time passes, and lots of fine-tuning needs to be done...
  2. WE ARE IN NEED OF MORE MODERATORS, right now, as of this post, there is only two moderators here, me, and one other person, and there is almost 3K members here, the workload between the two of us is too much, if you are a well-known contributor here that participates a lot, please reach out to us, and we will consider you.
  3. PLEASE PARTICIPATE, YOU ARE OUR EYES AND EARS!!! Keep us updated with the latest news and events in your area! The more you contribute, the less the mods have to do, we would love to see you publish small video clips, or articles here for us to comment on!
  4. If you notice any glitches, or bugs, please reach out to us, so we can rectify it. The more smoother the filters are, the more better it is for everyone to contribute here.

Thank you for reading, this wraps up the moderator announcement, things are bound to change in the future, so keep an eye out for the big flair that says "MOD ANNOUNCEMENT" to stay up to date on what's happening on this corner of the internet.

The University of Canberra (UC) Vice-Chancellor Bill Shorten says the time is right for the university to merge with the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT).
The CIT has faced recent upheaval, including the resignation of its embattled former chief executive this week.

What's next?

Mr Shorten says there is no timeline on his pitch, while the ACT government is yet to take a stance.

If Canberra is to get another Westfield, where should it be?

We got one in Woden, another one in Belconnen, but what if we were to get a third one, where would it be?

If you were to ask me, I’d say Gungahlin, it has potential, but they need to build next to the tram line to maximise traffic.

Does Western Sydney feel really wide and clean, or am I missing something?

Driving around the western suburbs, it feels more wide and clean. The more east I go, towards Sydney city, the more cramped and tight it gets, and the alleyways are more noticeable there.

However the more west, the more wide it feels. Especially when I’m around St. Mary’s, Rooty Hill, Woodcroft, Blacktown, the roads feel wide and just overall clean, or I’m probably delusional.

How did Australia get such a huge Lebanese population?

I’ve never seen so many Lebanese people before than in Australia, like every other person I meet or talk with is Lebanese to some extent, super friendly people.

How did Australia get so many of them with Lebanon having such a small population and so far from Australia?

How safe is the drive from Sydney to Canberra at 9pm?

I’m planning on driving right now from here in Sydney to Canberra, and sort of want to go nowish, but is it safe to do so? Because I’m driving a very old car that can do the job, but will absolutely fold in a crash or anything else similar to that. The last thing I wanna do is smash into a kangaroo, which im a bit worried about.
