Police Building Purchase

At the Finance & Admin Council Committee meeting on Tuesday, the mayor spoke about the intent to buy the Shelter Insurance building at Highland and Brown's Lane for $2.75 million for JPD administrative offices.

This is related to the loss of space at the Justice Complex on Washington because of roof safety issues.

The city intends to borow the money for this.

Short Term Rental Parties

Two differenct incidents were discussed at length at the last city council meeting.

One all night party in the West End was evidently was thrown by a rapper from Blytheville making a video, who invited all-comers.

The other all-nighter was in the northeeast part of of the city in a nice neighborhood, with the party alledgedly bing thrown at a $475K house whose owners moved to NWA and are doing AirBNB now.

Citizens are outraged and demanding the city does something about this. The city doesn't seem to know quite what to do to prevent these just yet.

Here we go again - City Sales Tax

Smells like astroturfing . . .

Once again, the reason the city needs a higher sales tax is for YOUR safety. The "organic" grassroots movement is proposing a 0.625% increase for the city. Current sales tax rates:

Arkansas 6.5%

Jonesboro 1.0%

Craighead County 1.0%

The county wanted an icrease for the overcrowded jail that the city uses. Didn't happen.

The city wants an increase becasue it wasnts an increase in budget, but once again they are using fire and police protection as a reason.

Old Places to eat on Marketplace Drive

I like Honey Baked Ham but back in the day there were a few I really liked. I'll try to reemmber the names but won't likely get them right.

Chinese Food - Great Wall of China?

Sandwiches - Ozark Mountain Smokehouse (they weighed the sandwiches)

Pizza, Chicago Style - Chicago Pizza Company?????

Anyone remember the places or names?
