Healing Progression

How it started / how it’s going from my WLE. My skin didn’t like having the sutures in but it has flattened out nicely. All for a mole smaller than a pencil eraser. I was shocked how long the incision is.

Chest X-Ray?

I was recently diagnosed with stage 1A with a depth of .6mm. I had a wide excision and sentinel lymph node biopsy. Thankfully all my pathology came back negative after my procedure. I had my post-op appointment today to get my sutures removed. My MD is still not cutting me loose just yet. For the next three years he wants me to have chest x-rays once per year along with a follow-up appointment with his physician assistant. This is in addition to my skin exams with my dermatologist every three months. He said if my chest x-rays come back clear three years in a row then I will “graduate.“ Has anyone else experienced this? I knew about the frequent skin exams but the chest x-rays caught me a bit off guard given my lymph nodes were negative.

Stage 1A

I have been navigating my anxiety after being diagnosed with stage 1A. They think my mole was .6mm and it had the following pathology on my report:

  • mitotic count 0/mm²
  • low Ki-67
  • no angiolymphatic invasion
  • no perineural invasion

I know I am lucky it was caught early. I had a WLE this week and my surgical oncologist also wanted to do a sentinel lymph node biopsy out of an extreme abundance of caution. I am waiting for the results of that now. I am glad he is being extra careful but it is making my anxiety worse! I’m scared and no one seems to understand how nerve wracking this is!
