Would you buy an Android phone with social media permanently blocked, but full access to Hinge, Slack, Teams, Authenticator, Robinhood, Spotify and more?
I've been thinking about the "dumb phone" trend and I see the appeal, but there's a real problem with most of them: no full keyboard, and apps like WhatsApp, Google Maps, Authenticator, Slack, and hinge etc. barely work on them or don't work at all.
I still want to be a part of society. I want Spotify. I want to listen to music. I'm single and I want to use dating apps. I need Teams and Slack for work. I need Authenticator. I want to trade stocks on Robinhood. I want a full keyboard so I can text easily and search things easily. I want to do everything a normal smartphone lets you do. I just don't want social media.
So I'm exploring something in between: a normal Android phone, pre-configured so that TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, Snapchat, and YouTube are blocked at the system level. You can't install them even if you try. But everything else is still there.
No willpower required. It's just not on the phone.
**A few questions:**
- Would you actually buy something like this?
- What would you pay?
- What apps would be on your "must keep" vs "must block" list?
Genuinely trying to figure out if there's demand before I build anything.
