I need to know what technical skills I need to improve on or other skills that I would need to run a PE firm. I get scared because it feels like it is too big for me to handle. In about 2 years, I'll be taking over a small family-owned PE firm. My background is in corporate finance, not PE directly, so I have some general finance fundamentals but nothing specific to deal sourcing, underwriting, or portfolio management. I want to use this time wisely and actually build the right skills instead of just waiting around. For those who've worked buy side if you had 2 years to prepare before stepping into a PE leadership role, what would you actually focus on? Financial modeling/LBO skills, deal experience, something else? How do I actually prepare for this?

I'm building a chatbot to learn — never built one before. Eventually want to put it on a website with some automation behind it. Only decision I'm stuck on right now is the search API if Tavily, Exa, Brave, something else? Also no clue what costs look like once it's actually getting traffic, since I have no experience to judge that against.
