Between pipe welders and plumbers who makes more money?

I'm planning to get my pipe welding certificate first, then go into commercial diving. My thinking is that whenever diving work slows down or I'm between contracts, I can keep working as a pipe welder. That way I can stay busy and keep earning instead of waiting for the next dive job. What do you think?

Hey everyone,

I’m 26 years old and I’m trying to make a solid decision about my future and financial direction. I’d really appreciate advice from people with real experience.

Right now, I’m considering two paths:

1. Focus on saving money, buy a van, and start a small business. If it goes well, I would reinvest and eventually grow into owning multiple vans.

2. Go into pipe welding, get trained, and build a long-term skilled trade career.

I’m trying to figure out which option is more worth it in the long run in terms of income stability, growth, and overall life success.

If you’ve been in either of these paths (or know someone who has), I’d really appreciate your honest advice or experience.
