Jerry Torre - Meet the sculptor with a green thumb I Jerry the Marble Faun

Apologies for not crediting MoMA (The Museum of Modern Art) previously.

"Jerry Torre has lived in Sunnyside, Queens for 25 years. When he moved in, this urban garden was weeds and concrete. He slowly transformed it into a verdant respite—and it wasn’t his first time! You may know Jerry as the gardener of Grey Gardens, where he earned his nickname: Jerry the Marble Faun. In addition to his excellence as a gardener, Jerry carves sculptures from stone sourced from demolition sites around New York. His intricately carved limestone works were on view at MoMA PS1 in the exhibition "Hard Ground" from May 16–October 14, 2024."

Meet the Cast - Jerry Torre

Meet the Cast! (a new series on this sub!) Highlights of honorable mentions in Grey Gardens ~

Jerry "The Marble Faun" Torre (1955 -)

"The summer of 1974, while working for the J. Paul Getty estate in East Hampton, New York, Torre rode his bike a different way than usual one day and approached a house where the hedges in front were so overgrown that the only parts visible were the two peaks of the gabled roof. He decided to explore what he thought was abandoned property. The house was the Bouvier mansion Grey Gardens and Torre became the Beales' handyman; doing odd jobs around the house. Little Edie nicknamed him "The Marble Faun", after the Nathaniel Hawthorne novel." Jerry still lives in New York today! He is a carver of stone at The Art Students League of New York. You can find him on his Facebook and Instagram! (Insta- https://share.google/Q98HRQsJJUKqUNOmL)

Standing Ovation for Little Edie! 1976

"February 20, 1976, Edie Beale (center) received a standing ovation in the balcony at The Paris Theater after the commercial premiere of the Maysles Brothers' documentary "Grey Gardens". After the showing, invited guests walked across the street to attend an after party in Edie's suite at The Plaza.

Big Edie was too ill to attend by this time and would pass away less than a year later.

This contact sheet image from Maysles photographer, Marianne Barcellona."
