i have to ask

okay, am i the only one who thinks the maysles were absolutely enchanted by little edie?

i know edie loved to flirt with david (and even al too, when she wasn’t mad at him 😂), but every time i watch grey gardens, i get the feeling they were just as taken with her.

yes, she had ideas of grandeur. yes, she could be incredibly self-absorbed… both traits she shared with her mother. but little edie was living in a flea-infested, collapsing mansion wearing skirts on her head, and somehow she was still absolutely stunning and magnetic. she could command a room with nothing but a monologue about zodiac compatibility or a little dance.

i feel like a lot of people—especially men—were completely captivated by her. she grew up during a time when women were expected to be polished and agreeable, yet edie was outspoken, funny, eccentric, and incredibly quick-witted. i can’t help but think that made her even more fascinating and lovable.

the maysles just seemed to look at her with sooo much affection. does anyone else get that vibe?

I thought yall might enjoy my custom shirt that my bff had made for me

I got it several years ago for my bday and he also had a custom notepad made of the same image but I’ve used it up. “But you see in dealing with me, the relatives didn’t know they were dealing with a staunch character”

Look who I found…

At my lovely mom’s house and came across a little clothespin doll I made her when I was a kid 500 years ago. I had used a piece of fabric for her hair because I didn’t feel like gluing threads, and now I realize that this is literally just Little Edie
