Book 8 was my favorite
I've seen a few people saying book 8 was good but their least favorite and I was pretty surprised. One qualification is I've only read these books, there's something about audio that breaks my brain (as good as this audio is).
The reading experience had this book going from tense to horror. The parade march got dark as fuck. One of the best aspects of this series is how Matt equates our lives with the world in the book. The AI has made decisions that favored Carl and the crawlers over the "machine" that created the crawl and vice versa . But the AI has occasionally seemed like the good guy because it favored the crawlers. The AI is horrific because it favors sadism.
The AI is measuring value on how fucked up decisions are. Carl and the others are becoming more sadistic than the organizers of the crawl, something that may not have happened before without the cookbook. And Matt is showing us that this is the fence we're walking on right now.
Using a fridge FOR the ferment?
I'm brand new to fermenting (the ones in the fridge are my first, I haven't even tasted them yet). But the temp in my house will frequently be 75+ in the summer and I don't have a basement (and I'm not using the crawl space, lol). From what I've read, keeping the temp between 60* and 70* will make a big diff with things like pickle crispness.
I've had this fridge in my garage unused for years so I bought a "temp controller" for it ($35). Is this going to not work because of something I'm not thinking about like some other factor about the inside of a fridge that will kill the ferment?
