Here is the promo for next week’s episode — End of the Line.

Synopsis: When Kayce realizes Tate has been taken hostage, he goes rogue in a desperate race to save his son as the Marshals uncover a powerful criminal operation tied to the East Camp land grab. A violent showdown ensues, putting everything Kayce cares about at risk.

So, what did everyone think about the 1st episode of the new season of Marshals?

The episode discussion thread will post at exactly 8:30pm Eastern time when the show is scheduled to air on CBS. The show has a special start time tonight at 8:30 instead of 8:00 pm. Of course it may also be delayed due to football over run, but the thread will be posted starting at 8:30 pm.

Hudnut:
“I think what Kayce’s dealing with is really watching his own son this season turning 18, becoming a man and trying to figure out what kind of Dutton man is he putting out into the world.”

According to the showrunner, that gives Kayce a better understanding of the difficulties his own father faced. There are now many parallels, he explained, between being a single parent and being frustrated with a teenager who has his own ideas about what to do with his life. “[Kayce] found his own path in season one,” Hudnut said. “And what path is Tate going to find this year?”

Hudnut said the team is raising the stakes and the production value this season, with plenty of twists and turns. “We get helicopters, we got a bronc riding team, we have a rodeo,” he teased. “So we’re really just trying to give the fans more of what they took to in Season 1.”

Grimes: Early in Season 2, tragedy strikes again just as Kayce begins to let his guard down. “He opens up just a little bit, and then that happens,” Grimes teased. “And obviously throughout the beginning of our season, he’s dealing with, like, is it me? Am I the reason bad things happen to these people?” Grimes added that Kayce starts to wonder whether he should ever open up again, and that it affects him “in a big, big way.”

Marshall-Green: Pete “Cal” Calvin’s battle with cancer continues this season, and Marshall-Green said it will reshape the unit. “We’re smack dab in the middle of the cancer treatments and, without giving anything away, it’s going to directly affect the team, and there are going to be some dominoes that fall because of it, and there are going to be some new leaders on the team,” he said. He added that the diagnosis will “close a window for him but open a door for others.”

Means: Means said Miles Kittle will keep moving between his loyalties to Broken Rock and his duties as a U.S. Marshal, with more of his time spent on Marshals work this season. That conflict comes to a head in the October 18th episode “Falling Sky,” when the team is sent to track three Broken Rock residents accused of shooting down a military test drone.

Sounds like he’s going continue to dealing with trying to stop the mine, while also dealing with a challenge to his leadership of Broken Rock. It also sounds like we are going to continue to see plenty of Rainwater and Kayce bonding too.

CBS has posted some new key art ahead of the October 4 premiere of the second season.

Sound like any progress Kayce & Tate have made in their relationship since Monica’s death is going to backslide in season 2 and there is rough road ahead for them.

It looks like Kayce and Tate will be visiting John Dutton's gravesite (along with other Dutton family members) on the old Yellowstone ranch. Also, we can look forward to also seeing Rainwater and Mo in the episode.

It appears as if Tate has not even left the state of Montana. And we are going to find out if Daddy Tom is willing to exchange Tate for daughter dearest Dolly, It doesn’t look like, or more likely she is coy because she known the jig is up and things are not going to end well for Weaver family.

Hudnut shares what Jimmy will be doing in Montana: “Jimmy’s coming to East Camp. He’ll be spending time in Montana. He’ll be getting to know this team, this newfound family for Kayce. We’re just super excited to keep adding. We have such a great roster of actors. It’s fun to just keep adding to that.”

Interesting. I would think that if the Peacock streaming legal issues were blocking the possibility of a crossover, that Luke and Kelly would not be talking about it so much given that they are both executive producers on their respective shows, and they would know if it wasn't allowed or not.

Here is the first look at Jimmy on Marshals from Instagram. Looks like he’s at East Camp and there is no Four Sixes gear in sight.

I wonder if this now puts to bed the idea that Peacock’s streaming deal was limiting the number of original Yellowstone characters that could appear on either Marshals or Dutton Ranch?

Which means the crossover between Marshals and Dutton Ranch, Luke and Kelly have been texting back and forth about could definitely be happening.

On the other hand, it now does make the speculation about why Monica (Kelsey Asbille) didn’t join Marshals more rampant, cause we know Spencer Hudnut, said that he planned on her being part of Marshals in till he was told she was unavailable.

Also, with Marshals now having more Yellowstone related storylines and more original characters from Yellowstone, it looks like Marshals is becoming more of the ‘unofficial’ sequel to Yellowstone, versus Dutton Ranch which unforunately for all us fans morphed into the 10p & Carter show.

Harsh but fair:

Marshals should continue to shift its strategy, leaning away from its case-of-the-week format while centering on the Dutton family. Historically, it would walk back what set CBS's Marshals apart. The series doesn’t need to discard its procedural premise entirely, though it will benefit from remembering that character development and stories that audiences can’t put down are what forged Yellowstone.

People Magazine confirms Kayce and Tate will visit John’s grave at the old Yellowstone ranch in Season 2 of Marshals.
