I received a letter saying I was overpaid in 2020 when I used to claim universal credit with my ex partner (it was a joint claim and we closed the claim when we separated). The letter states that the overpayment happened because of a Seiss Grant he received and didn't report.

Now me and him have been separated for 2 years and he moved outside the UK. I was never aware he received any grants, and now it feels like im being asked to pay back alone for something that I didn't have much control over.

Is there anything I can do? Is it worth trying to explain my situation, or should I just pay it back?
