Big Man Depth (2026-2027 Season)

I'm sure most of you have seen Pharrel Payne from UMD received a medical redshirt and will play next season. On the topic of big men on our current roster, who do you think can guard Payne for a solid 25-30 mins on Saturday, Nov 7 (I hope it's a night game btw -- none of that 12PM/Noon BS)?

The UMD game last season is where the presence of Vince was felt immediately when he touched the floor. I'm worried if Chol is playing the 5 against Payne he'll be forced into fouling due to lack of strength against a mature Pharrel Payne.

At this point I assume Cooley and staff are done adding depth to the PG & SG positions (it's still pretty early so I guess we'll see). We've added Jaland Lowe (Kentucky) + Elmarko Jackson (Kansas) + Gabriel (Brazil). Given the unknown of what Gabriel can provide, I'm curious to see if Cooley will need to defer to Mulready as a 6th man. I wonder what it would look like if Mulready enters the game with zero restrictions. We know Mulready can shoot the 3-ball, but he's also an impressive finisher at the rim. I wouldn't be upset if he comes into the game and becomes the focal point of our offense. In his interview with MTC Media after our loss against UConn in the BET, he seemed extremely motivated to get in the lab (the gym) and improve all facets of his game. A young man that can take an L and immediately have the attitude of "ok, I just fell but let me get right back up" is what we need. The guy stays ready for his number to get called (we saw that with the Mack vouching for him situation). We should all be confident that he'll be a reliable source of offense for us next season.
