Goat’s Beard

Goat’s Beard

I planted this as a bare root a few years ago - maybe five? - and it gets a bit bigger every year. It’s very happy in this spot, but I’m hoping to divide it in the fall and transplant part of it to a shady spot I’ve struggled to keep filled.

Pennsylvania pellitory?

I’m in Zone 7B, Northern Virginia.

My plant ID app claims this plant is Pennsylvania pellitory. I’m not familiar with the species so was hoping for a confirmation one way or the other.

If it is, I’d love to encourage its growth in my yard, especially because it’s growing in a very shady, otherwise bare patch next to my deck. My next door neighbor has a silver maple whose roots are pretty aggressive in my yard, so any native ground cover that can thrive under the canopy and amongst the roots would be amazing.

It’s gray and kind of cold outside, so the vibrance of this blue doesn’t come through as much. I’ve worn a few blues for April and have confirmed to myself that even though I have a ton of blues in my collection, I don’t really enjoy wearing them.

Pics 1 and 2 are my Compacta, which is blooming for the first time in the five years I’ve owned in. The blooms smell faintly of chocolate and vanilla custard. Pics 3 and 4 are my Bella, which is also five years old and a regular bloomer. It has just started blooming and will put on quite a few more before it’s done for the time being.
