Task Failed Successfully: How I broke into the Oceanview Hotel using accidental loop math.

Hey everyone, playing this for the first time in July of 2026.

When I found the Bar Menu on the rooftop, I completely missed the obvious clue. Instead of just looking at the price for the "Oceanview Cocktail," I mapped out the entire board from top to bottom by adding and subtracting the price differences between each drink to find a pattern.

Because Alan Wake is all about loops, I assumed this list of price changes was a continuous sequence that would start over once you reached the bottom.

Here is how the math worked out in my head:

Manhattan to Lake on the Rocks: 20.00 to 20.50 (+$0.50 / The First Step)

Lake on the Rocks to Shotgun: 20.50 to 19.00 (-$1.50)

Shotgun to Negroni: 19.00 to 20.50 (+$1.50)

Negroni to Oceanview: 20.50 to 25.50 (+$5.00)

Oceanview to Old Fashioned: 25.50 to 22.00 (-$3.50)

Old Fashioned to Gin Twist: 22.00 to 25.00 (+$3.00 / The Final Drink)

Since +$0.50 was the very first step of the pattern, I assumed reaching the end of the menu meant the loop would reset right back to that first increment.

I took the final drink price (25.00) and started the sequence over by adding that first +$0.50, giving me 25.50.

I punched in 2550, the door unlocked, and I walked right in. It wasn't until later I realized the intended solution was literally just copying the price of the Oceanview Cocktail from the middle of the board!

The fact that the final price allowed my loop-reset math to land on the exact correct code is an incredible coincidence. Honestly, breaking into the hotel using an accidental mathematical synchronicity feels like the most authentic "Alan Wake" experience possible!
