Atrial flutter
Hi everyone,
I’m a 36-year-old looking to hear from anyone who has had a similar experience.
A few weeks ago, my Apple Watch recorded a heart rate of 206 bpm while I was sitting. That led me to see a cardiologist, and I wore an MCOT monitor. The monitor captured one episode of atrial flutter (at around 85 bpm), and my echocardiogram was normal.
Initially, I was told I might need an ablation, so I was very anxious. I also took metoprolol for a few days.
I recently saw an electrophysiologist, and after reviewing everything, he said that because they only caught one flutter episode, I’m young, and my heart structure is normal, I don’t need an ablation right now. He actually told me to stop all medications, live a normal life, and come back only if I think I have another flutter episode.
I’m relieved, but also nervous because I keep wondering if I’m making the right decision by not having an ablation.
Has anyone else had:
Only one documented atrial flutter episode?
Been advised to skip ablation and just monitor?
I am seeing 2% afib signs detected on my watch every week. Do I need to take any action? I have discussed this with my EP. He didn’t seem to be worried about it .
Stayed well for months or years without another episode?
If you were in a similar situation, I’d really appreciate hearing:
How long it’s been since your diagnosis.
Whether you’ve had any recurrences.
If you eventually needed an ablation or never did.
Thank you so much. Reading other people’s real experiences would really help put my mind at ease.
