Diagnosed with type 2 at 21

I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, or well I only found out it was type 2 today when the results for my antibodies came back. Can’t say I’ve noticed any symptoms, I’m not thirsty, I’m not peeing excessively, the only symptom would be fatigue, like the kind where I need to take a nap after every meal. It was kind of inevitable since type 2 runs in my family, but I did not expect to get it this early, but I’m also not surprised because I can’t say I’ve been prioritising my health. My doctor let me try a cgm and said my blood sugar was that of a non diabetic which just confused me even more. It seems like it’s just my fasting blood sugar that is abnormal. My previous doctor suspected it was LADA because of my other autoimmune conditions but that’s been ruled out now. I’m set to start ozempic in August, I’m a bit nervous because I vomited from taking metformin so I’m not sure how I’ll react to ozempic. I’m honestly feeling a lot of shame, but I guess it’s mostly the stigma surrounding type 2 and how I could’ve prevented this. Is there anyone else that was diagnosed this early with type 2?

Newly diagnosed

Hello! I was diagnosed with Tourette’s last week and since then I’ve been trying to come to terms with it. I’ve had tics for a long time, probably since I was 14 and I’m now 21, but up until now most doctors just blamed it on stress or my autism. I tried to get a diagnosis when I was around 16 years old and when I was met with the same response I just accepted it and let it be. Fast forward to present day and I make an appointment to get assessed again after many doctors asked if I had Tourette’s after I described my symptoms and turns out they were right.

Even though it’s nice to have an answer to my problems, I feel like a larper, I feel as though my tics aren’t noticeable or severe enough to call it Tourette’s, especially since I don’t have many vocal tics. My motor tics mainly consists of body jerks, blinking and grimacing, while my vocal tics are hiccups, coughing and echolalia. I very rarely have vocal tics as well, at least in contrast to my motor tics. I haven’t told many people about my diagnosis, and those that I have told all responded with “I couldn’t even tell!” Which I’m grateful for in a way, I’m fortunate enough to not have very noticeable tics, but it also makes me feel like a liar. Another person also told me that “it could’ve been way worse! At least you’re not yelling slurs!” Which was quite insensitive.

I know that I’m not alone in this feeling and that I’m probably still a bit caught up in the media’s portrayal of Tourette’s but I hope I will feel less of this imposter syndrome with time:) any tips, words of wisdom and recommendations are appreciated! My doctor has put me on a low dose of Abilify but I’m wondering if the beta blockers would’ve been better🧐
