Is Asin really a "Malayali Heroine"? And why is her career perceived so differently from Nayanthara's?

I was thinking about Asin’s career recently and had a few questions:

The "Malayali Heroine" Tag: Asin only acted in one Malayalam film (Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka), where she had a pretty forgettable role. Yet, people still tag her as a Malayali actress who made it big in Tamil/Hindi. Is it just because she is ethnically from Kerala, or because she played a Malayali girl in M. Kumaran Son of Mahalakshmi?

Asin vs. Nayanthara: Nayanthara gets constantly critiqued or trolled whenever she does a Malayalam movie or speaks about the industry, despite starting her career with classics like Manassinakkare. Meanwhile, Asin completely skipped Mollywood, yet faces zero criticism from the Kerala audience. Is it simply because Asin retired early and stays out of the spotlight?

Her Roles Beyond Ghajini: Aside from Ghajini (which carried her entire Bollywood shift), did she actually have any performance-heavy, meaty roles? Or was she mostly utilized as the typical commercial "glamour/chatterbox" heroine in Tamil and Hindi films?

What are your thoughts?

( I watched her Ghajini; it was good and I also watched Pokkiri, which I do not find her impressive, and it is a hero-centric film. I tried Dasavathaaram, and Ohh God, it is Tamizh masala in the name of science fiction.
I am not a fan of Nayan, but I have huge respect for her, as she has made herself relevant in different industries for a decade and is still working)

Does height, weight or complexion play a role in Malaylam cinema?

I was thinking about physical standards across Indian film industries.

In Bollywood, height, zero-size/bikini bodies, and fair skin seem almost non-negotiable for lead women, while lead guys also have strict standards around height, hair, and complexion. Other South industries often lean heavily towards extremely fair complexions for lead women.

When you look at our main stars—Ikka, A10, R10, DQ, Nivin etc.—they all have distinct screen presence, but physical traits like height and complexion still play a part in star appeal. On the female lead side, it feels like we rarely see shorter lead actresses (like 5'0"), or dark-skinned females, or unconventional faces as top-tier mainstream stars—most seem to fit a fairly tall or conventional mold.

Do you think Mollywood actually has subtle height/weight/complexion biases that we overlook because our scripts are grounded, or is it genuinely more flexible than other industries? Would love to hear your thoughts.
