Can we crack the pan indian phenomenon?

We had a huge potential with Empuraan but still didn't able to achieve a massive pan indian success.
Movies like Pulimurugan,Lokah, premalu,Manjummal Boys very recently Drishyam3 also had done a significant box office run in South Indian BO.
But in case of north BO apart from Marco (That too a small proportion) we haven't able to crack our market there.
Are There any chances of our movies becoming like Bahubali,Kgf.
Unlike other industries our industry actors even with having an all time hit other states still have a visibility across the country.

Actors who are actually very good, but are held back by their accent ?

Both Appuni Sasi and Naslen comes in this category i think.

How do movies like Karakkam get green lit in the Malayalam industry?

Can someone explain how movies like Karakkam get green lit in the Malayalam industry?

I can understand how a script can look promising on paper but end up failing because of poor execution. That happens.

But for this movie, the writing itself was extremely atrocious and honestly brain rotting. And for a movie with such a big focus on music, it was extremely bad. There wasn't a single moment where you felt like bopping along. The comedy was so cringe too. It's supposed to be a musical horror comedy, but it somehow failed at all three. The horror didn't work, the comedy didn't land, and the music was a huge letdown.

I don't really blame the lead actors. At the end of the day, it's a paycheck, and they probably signed up based on what they were told.

But the people who brought this project to life... how did this even happen? More than being a waste of time and ticket money, it's just such a shame and feels like a stain on an industry like Malayalam cinema, which is known for making some amazing films.

What am I missing here? Does anyone actually know how projects like this make it all the way to release?

Spoof/Parody movies, what went wrong?

What are the reasons these films failed to make a big impact on BOX OFFICE. Also what went wrong with Bha Bha Ba, and why other 2 films failed at BO.

Is there any chance of a Mohanlal–Chidambaram project happening?

The three directors I most want to see make a film with Mohanlal are Jithu Madhavan, Rahul Sadasivan, and Chidambaram. Is there any chance that a project with either Jithu Madhavan or Chidambaram is in the works? Chidambaram and Jithu Madhavan had also shared the Nedungandam Miracle poster.

DQ X Jithu Madhavan after Suriya47

The project will start pre-production almost immediately after the release of Suriya47 (end of the year). Project rumoured to be along the lines of a manichitrathazhu entertainer kinda vibe

This scene from Hallo (2007) never gets old! A10’s comedic Azhinjattam!

I have fond memories of watching this movie at Kalabhavan Theater in Trivandrum 19 years ago and enjoying it immensely. I also recall the poster celebrating its 100+ day run.

Rajuettan and the Art of Interviews

Did anyone see the recent Prithviraj's interview with Anupama Chopra (Hollywood Reporter India) ?

People might hate on him, he might not be a gifted actor like Lalettan, and his detractors might even call him a limited actor... but he is THE best communicator and interviewee in the English language, bar none, in our film industry. And possibly one of the best in the country. The ideal person to market Mollywood and our films outside Kerala and India.

A lot of folks think if someone speaks English poshly a la Shashi Tharoor, uses big words, and maintains a dignified body language, they must be a brilliant communicator. That is a huge misconception; that is only surface-level. There are tons of other attributes that make you a top-tier communicator, and Prithviraj checks all the boxes. Evident from this particular interview:

Ability to articulate clearly and lucidly

Fluency and clarity of thought

Gestures and body language: Prithvi is able to seamlessly incorporate his acting abilities into his communication.

Providing apt anecdotes with a dose of humor

Masterful inflection and use of adjectives

Here's the main thing: he doesn't let the interviewer set the tone, lead the conversation, or hijack his train of thought. What he wants to communicate, he says bluntly and fully, irrespective of what the interviewer thinks or how the audience might perceive it.

Like Shashi Tharoor and SRK, he possesses that natural charisma that makes you want to listen to him. He has the rare ability to inspire the listener.

Crucially, he always operates with a clear agenda on what he wants to convey to the audience and how they'll perceive it...that is incredible clarity of thought.

If you watched the entire interview (and kudos to Anupama Chopra for giving him the space to express himself), the part where he talks about SS Rajamouli and Varanasi literally pulls you into that world.

After that particular segment, I felt truly inspired by Prithviraj's words and realized two things very clearly: first, the sheer amount of hard work that goes into Rajamouli's films and the genius behind the man; and second, that Prithviraj is one hell of a communicator. R10's objectives were entirely met.

A limited actor maybe...but a master communicator, a marketing maverick, and a shrewd businessman. Truly an asset to our industry.

PS: Let’s be real...Prithviraj is a corporate machine dressed as a filmmaker, and every single thing he does is carefully orchestrated for market capitalization. This isn't PR praise... it’s a clinical observation. Even if you dislike his acting or his cold, transactional hustle, you can not deny his absolute supremacy as an interviewee.

Watched Mollywood Times. I didn't like the film at all... Contd...

But I don't hate it. A few comic moments and some thoughts are there here and there, that's all. I didn't like Naslen in this at all, felt the same Premalu vibe.

The other guy, from Avesham fame, needs more movies. He's genuinely good without much effort. But Amal davis roles are the same everywhere now.

Throughout the film I felt like this is Abhinav's documentary, or he's shouting something and poking at someone without revealing it.

I think the main reason I didn't like this approach is that it's again a narrative style like Mukundan Unni Associates, and it didn't even come anywhere near that movie.

All those 2D animations were good. Meme material is there.

Saiju Kurup says B3: Rasaleela is still in early stages, aims for 2028 release.

Saiju Kurup shared that 'Bharathanatyam 3: Rasaleela' is still in the very early stages of development, so audiences shouldn't expect it anytime soon. He mentioned that a 2028 release is currently expected and that he doesn't know whether the genre will be a horror-comedy, as reported online.

Why did Aarattu fail as a meta-spoof while GBU seems to be working? What made th

This is something that struck me last night.

The more I think about it, the more I feel Aarattu and GBU have a similar approach. Both movies are filled with references to the lead actor's previous films, their image, fan service, and they don't seem to take themselves too seriously. They're almost like spoof or self-aware commercial entertainers.

But the reception has been very different.

GBU seems to be working well with its target audience, and I've even seen a lot of people from Kerala saying they enjoyed it for what it is. But when Aarattu came out, it was heavily trolled and dismissed by many people.

So what actually made the difference?

Was Aarattu just ahead of its time? Or was the execution simply not good enough? Did GBU understand its own tone better? Or have audiences become more accepting of these kinds of self-aware, over-the-top movies now?

I'm not trying to compare the actors or start a fan war. I'm genuinely curious about the filmmaking side of it. Why did one movie click while the other didn't, even though both seem to be aiming for a similar kind of experience?

Would love to hear your thoughts...

My vibe of films🌿🔮👻🏞️

All these films I can watch again and again everyday.Dont know what connects me with these films.I don't care whether they are successful or not or critically acclaimed or anything but I just love.Watching these films I want to go to that place and live a life.I like the atmosphere of all these films.A rural village or a cold hill place with the involvement of fantasy elements...

I don't know whether anyone agrees or not but for me Thenmavin Kombathu is a fantasy film. It is the folk tale of Manikyan and Karthumbi and their journey.Infact apart from the fact that the characters speak malayalam no where in the film mentions where this story happens and who are they and where are they from. From shobhana to Mohanlal their dressing style everything is fictional. It is truly a fictional fantasy film.

Who all like these films ?
