Broken anti-cavitation plate

First time boat owner. I think I hit a log or branch. The pontoon is out of the water on a trailer when not in use. Everything is running fine, I don’t notice any issues since the damage.

Do I get this fixed now or wait til the end of the season? Weld in a new repair to the notch or add some type of hydrofoil/plate extension?

High School CE Interest

My son is starting the 11th grade and is interested in chemical engineering. He was primarily interested in mechanical engineering until this past year when he really enjoyed his high school chemistry class. He also has some interest in materials science. For what it’s worth he doesn’t seem specifically interested in oil & gas.

What are the best ways I can help him get more exposure to chemical engineering before college to see if it’s what he really wants to do? We live in Ohio.
