How Many Horses to Pull a Ski?

We are looking to buy a used 22 foot pontoon. Locally there are a few with various HP ratings.

  1. How many horses do you need to pull a couple of kids on a tube?

  2. How many horses would we need to pull a skier?

Props

I have a 2012 24ft Sweetwater with strakes and a 2012 Yamaha F115hp (older generation). I know that this would be considered underpowered but it works well for us. I noticed that my to top speed is at about 4600rpm. Increasing the rpm has little effect. I've been snooping the internet and a prop at a lower pitch seems to be a good optiion for maybe a few more mph, better fuel economy and less work for the engine. And then there's 3 vs 4 blade. I'm no mechanic so I would have a marina do the swap over the winter. Anybody gone through this or have opinion or advice?

Broken anti-cavitation plate

First time boat owner. I think I hit a log or branch. The pontoon is out of the water on a trailer when not in use. Everything is running fine, I don’t notice any issues since the damage.

Do I get this fixed now or wait til the end of the season? Weld in a new repair to the notch or add some type of hydrofoil/plate extension?

Is this normal wear and tear or something worse

Looking to buy first pontoon. Rest of this one seems good in the pictures but the lower unit is discolored. Is this from just sitting in a slip or is it a sign of neglected maintenance?

Why is it so rare to see a level 'toon?

I'm noticing at my lake that most pontoons sit low in the back. This is when sitting empty at the dock **or** running on the water. Even brand new boats. Years ago dealers & owners seemed to try to move the battery & fuel around to get level--the waterline stain had no tilt.

Does it even matter?

Mini pontoon?

Looking at a first boat to get my family out on the water. We live by some larger lakes that would be awesome to cruise around on.

Right now I have capacity to tow 3500 lbs and can upgrade to a 5000 lb towing capacity. So keeping it around 2k lbs to start would be great.

I've seen mini pontoons mostly in the 10-14 foot range. But I'm having a hard time finding one in person. I just want to cruise with the fam and swim in a lake. What are peoples experiences here?

Bimini Top

So does sun tracker still make their canvas tops. Or does anyone know how to repair them as they start to show age and dry rot.

2 small holes and after today while under a bridge the front corner on the frame got some rash chewed out of it.

It has the tail light on top along with courtesy lights that shine down to illuminate the seats and walk way.

Can someone teach me about outboard mounting height?

A new to family pontoon we will be keeping at the cabin so we don’t always have to pull our wake boat around. Does the motor look like it’s sitting a little too low?

Broken fin

I noticed one of our pontoon fins broke against our docks. How critical are these fins? It looks fairly straight to weld but I’m not a welder, especially not with aluminum.

Cover recommendations

Just got this beauty - 2013 Sun Tracker Fishin Barge 22'. I need to get it out of the sun. Any recommendations for a cover, beyond the generic options available on Amazon?

Dumb question about mounting a transducer

I want to add a fish-finder to my pontoon but how can I drill for the transducer mount that's underwater & I don't have a trailer to pull the boat out?

I'm also not real sure how possible it is to run the cable under the floor & over to the back of the log while standing in the lake, crouched underneath.

**Has anyone done this?**. Or should I just wait till October when I arrange for it to be pulled out & stored?

Keep Bimini top up all the time?

Keep your Bimini top up? Northern lake climate here. Neighbor keeps his Bimini top up all season. I’ve been closing mine and zipping it up after each use. Feels like the top could become a sail in high winds. What’s the best thinking here. Thanks!

Easy Cover Hack for Simple Rain and Seat Protection

My boat isn't on a lift right now. It's a 2019 Regency 21 Foot. The cover is a HUGE pain in the ass to put on and take off. I wish there was just a simple cover I could put on that would protect it from rain and sun damage when it's in the water over the summer.

Any ideas? I've looked on amazon, etc. but nothing fits with the Bimini top unless you cut holes, etc.

Wasn't sure if there was a good DIY type thing I haven't thought of.
