Kid kicked in face at school, wwyd?

I need some outside opinions. My kid attends Discovery Charter. Yesterday they were kicked in the face because another student was sitting on a desk and “slipped” and kicked my student in the face.

Here’s where it gets good. The kid that kicked mine is the child of a staff member of the school and has a well known history of being abusive and threatening to other students. My kid was sent to the nurse and given an ice pack but when returned to class the teacher told them to place the Nurse report on her desk vs bring it home. I only knew there were two incidents bc another parent called to tell me their child was involved in something with this kid as well.

I never received a call from the school, teacher OR nurse and my kid seemed worried to tell me that this student had not one BUT TWO instances in the SAME DAY where the other student was abusive and physical “on accident” or “just playing around”. Second incident occurred during PE when the other student charged at my student and another knocking them down to the ground. Student was simply told they can’t play with others and separated. Yet again, tolerance and acceptance for violence and bullying was exercised, yet others are ruled with an iron fist when it comes to school policy.

Counting down the days till the year is over and we can switch schools. This year at Discovery has been the worst for our family.

We are having a hard time with schooling in the area.

We currently attend Discovery Charter but looking for somewhere that has more structure around academics, zero tolerance for bullying and doesn’t discriminate against families that don’t fit their mold i.e make large donations or live in the surrounding community.

Any and all recommendations accepted.

I had a parent teacher conference and the teacher made comments such as “I don’t like correcting the students” and “ I don’t want anyone to get in trouble” when I brought up a concern of bullying from a well known problem student.

My issue is also with how low the students scored on the last round of testing. Instead of sending out a solution for improvements they sent out a letter excusing themselves for not being prepared for the new style of testing. I am understanding of learning curves and new systems but the kids don’t bring homework or packets home during the week so I feel they did not prep the students effectively prior to the testing but they sure do put a lot of effort into the fun run and book fairs.

My kids classes have had behavior issues the last 2years and it’s starting to impede on academic learning. We have 2nd graders kissing, threatening others with death, grabbing girls bottoms/privates, slandering of less fortunate kids etc etc… I’m mortified to get to know more parents because I don’t know what else I will hear.

Desperate to find a solution that can be permanent, I’m really heart broken with what has come out of Discovery. I thought this would be our school till high school.
