Weltman turned water into wine

Well that may be some hyperbole, but got to give credit where credit is due. He turned Isaac's salary I think it was $14 million into 3 minimum contracts - Vooch, Carter, Isaac - to fill out the roster.

I like all the pickups and I think they still have room for 1 more minimum with Nelson signing a 2 way. I doubt the TMLE gets used cause that puts them at the hard cap (correct me please if the TMLE is off the table anyway). But there are still some good wing players who they can get for minimum (Simons is definitely getting more than that). I'm looking at Josh Okogie, Russell Westbrook, Javonte Green, Khris Middleton (praying hands)

Why are Y'all Mad?

I'm seeing so many angry posts about no signings or trades, but isn't this what most of you wanted?

All season, I read on this subreddit that any coach besides that coach could take this same team and be a top 4 seed in the East.

Well, you may be about to get your wish & you're still unhappy. I'm going to get downvoted, but most of y'all know I'm telling the truth.

All that a high school coach could lead this team, well, I can't wait till October to get here and find out. It's still early, and I'm sure they'll sign someone & I don't think any team has outright jumped to lead in East, and that's subject to change also. But right now, some are going to get their wish. So stop whining!

New Report Doesn't Make Sense IMO

I feel like this is Milwaukee trying to up the offers from everybody who is interested in Giannis. From Magic point, they never leak anything. Weltman and Org. are notorious for keeping things under wraps & when it occurs, it happens quickly.

Secondly, if Bucks want to trade Giannis before draft, how is Sweeney going to have time to evaluate and figure out P5 & Boogie. Between Finals having his attention, going home in TX and getting things finalized to move to FL, to meeting players, watching game film, firing his staff, etc. I guess the caveat is there aint as many games to watch of them and team as a whole with all the injuries LOL

I think this is just another case of teams using media to put out things in hopes another team ups the offer(s)

My Magic Free Agent Want List in Order

This list is my list of realistic options for the Magic in free agency this offseason. This is not considering any other moves. So basically if Weltman makes no changes besides what we've heard or anticipate (releasing/stretching JI and moving on from Jett).

  1. Colin Gillespie - 3pt shooter, can play or or off ball. Fits multiple roles as back-up PG and starter when Suggs misses his 10-15 games. Can play on court same time with Suggs, Bane or Black. He is also league average in defensive rating.

2.. Josh Okogie - perimeter defense and high hustle. He always brings a spark and someone who will get dirty vs the other team. He can give you good minutes and good corner 3pt shooter. Crafty, scruffy veteran team needs.

  1. Nick Richards - RIM PROTECTION. Along with that, good roller off screens for lobs, good rebounder. Athleticism off bench. Also, allows team to move Goga for another good player.

  2. Dean Wade - one of the better 3 and D guys in the league. Good defender, has good size and can hit open 3. Good role player who seems to fit on almost any team in league. He may not be as realistic as he was starter for Cleveland but will they want to pay him MLE type money.

  3. Keon Ellis - good 3 and D guy off the bench. Very good on defense. Doesn't bring you the consistent scoring, but brings it on defense every game. I think we need more athleticism on team and he has that in abundance. Good floor spacer as well.

  4. Brandon Williams - another PG. He's wrecked havoc when playing us. We want to play faster and Coach Sweeney likes a fast offense with quick decisions. Can be a good igniter off the bench and we've seen him get hot and change the game when on.

Honorable mention: Jeremy Sochan, Precious Achiuwa, Doug McDermott, Jaxson Hayes

New Paolo going back to Old Paolo!

In new photos posted P5 looks slimmer and should I say Duke-ish with the hair cut. Looks like he putting in work and hopefully getting back to pre-oblique injury Paolo (before people say these are old pics, look at the shoes. He has Jordan 40s)

Coach Sweeney - Finals Game Plan

I hope he has a better defensive game plan than he had last night rest of series. Wemby pressuring KAT 30 feet from basket. Putting rookie Bryant on Brunson to be abused. Just poor adjustments & plan coming into Game 1.

We have Coach, what's Next?

I am pleased with the Sweeney hire and staying defensive minded. Now, here's what I'm very interested in what happens next.

  1. Who does Sweeney bring as assistants? I'm hoping he brings at least one coach who's been a head coach before. I also want to see if he hires a shooting coach.

  2. Goga. I think he's most likely to be moved as he has a nice contract he's one of the best backup Cs in the league when engaged. Why move him then? Cause bench needs scoring prowess, and I think there are other capable backup C you could get for less (Day'Ron Sharpe, Nic Richards, Drew Eubanks, Jericho Sims, Yabusele, Marvin Bagley)

  3. Who gets MLE. We have MLE available. It has to get used, right? Dean Wade, Keon Ellis, Harrison Barnes, Jeremy Sochan, Precious Achwui. All could help off the bench and maybe can be bought in for less than MLE. I think Robert Williams, Kris Middleton, Simons and like will all be too expensive for us.

  4. This is just my own selfishness; need to see or hear from someone saying they saw Franz walking with no boot or limp and even better, playing/working out. Don't gotta be soon. Rest up, Franz, but soon enough for my own selfishness lol

Going into this offseason I am as down on him as I’ve ever been with a young Magic player. But like most Magic fans, we move on from the valleys pretty fast.

Being the optimist that I am, this is the first offseason since Jalen had his best season that he is “healthy”. I put healthy in quotation marks cause is he really? I mean every game, every fall the man looks like he’s about to be out for the next month. But if he is, he can actually work on his game and mental and come back better.

This season there were small steps in progress as a PG. He pushed tempo and is out of bounds passing was outstanding. Funny how we had more movement on out of bounds plays than actual half court offense, but I digress. I saw steps in right direction followed by same amount of going back to bad habits. With Weltman pretty much saying roster won’t change, this offseason is crucial for Suggs and being healthy I’m hoping he takes advantage and come October ready to play some great ball. Offseason before his contract year, was last offseason healthy and he had his best year.

Any thoughts on why Weltman's extension was kept a secret? I don't get how he gets to keep his job looking at the shortcomings of this roster and the contracts he's given out.

EDIT: Did he get asked about this contract during his interview at All-Star break? Now I might have to go back and listen to it again. I thought he did. If so, when was his extension signed?

Today is about them. I expect Paolo and Bane to have good enough games. Suggs & WCJ are the X factors, and for Suggs, maybe the game to decide his future with the franchise.

I like my guys to show up today and Magic to win. Happy Sunday and Happy Winsday!!!

Mosley, despite the criticism, really showed the coach he is growing into. He's the steady hand the Magic needs. Never gets too up or down, stays preaching the core principles of the team (defense), and instills confidence in his guys. He trusted Cain to step up and could have gone with AB or TDS, but went to the guy who was on a 2 way to guard the best player on the other team. Suggs is struggling, but staying with him will pay off either Wednesday or Friday.

Just like the team, Coach Mosley is growing right in front of us. He's pushing the right buttons & team is peaking at the right time.
