Emirates/DXB travelers: Does today’s UAE missile alert change your comfort level transiting Dubai?

Today (Aug. 18), the UAE activated air defenses after missile threats directed toward the country. Residents received shelter alerts and interceptions were heard in Dubai. The all-clear was later given with no reported casualties or damage.

DXB remains open, UAE airspace is open, and Emirates’ long-haul network is operating.

But an actual missile threat + shelter alerts feels different from the recent Hormuz/shipping issues.

For anyone in Dubai, transiting DXB, or flying Emirates soon: Are you still going? Did today change your comfort level? Any firsthand experience at DXB or with Emirates cancellations/changes?

We transit DXB shortly and would especially appreciate real traveler experiences rather than geopolitical predictions.

DXB Emirates Lounge veterans: Is a 2½-hour connection enough time to actually enjoy it?

I’d love to hear from people who have actually transited through Dubai recently and used the Emirates Business Class Lounge.

We’re flying Emirates Business from SFO to Johannesburg. Our SFO flight is scheduled to arrive at DXB at about 8:30 PM, and our DXB–JNB flight departs around 11:00 PM.

So on paper, we have roughly a 2½-hour connection.

But I’m trying to figure out what that means in the real world.

By the time you get off the A380, walk through DXB, deal with whatever transit/security is required, find the lounge, and then leave early enough to get to the JNB gate for boarding…

Do you actually have enough time left to enjoy the lounge?

I’m not looking to race in, grab a bottle of water and race back out. 😂 I’d love enough time to sit down, have something decent to eat, relax after the 15+ hour flight from San Francisco, and ideally let my traveling companion put her feet up for a while before another long flight.

For those of you who have done a connection like this:

• How much actual lounge time would you expect from a 2½-hour connection?
• Is 60–90 minutes in the lounge realistic, or am I dreaming?
• Is DXB easy enough to navigate that this feels relaxed rather than rushed?
• Is there a particular Emirates Business Lounge area we should head for with limited time?
• And if you had our connection, would you bother settling into the lounge and having a meal, or would you feel too conscious of the clock?

I’ve read the official Emirates information. What I really want is the “I did this last month and here’s what actually happened” version.

Extra points for anyone who has done SFO → DXB → JNB specifically.

Best day/time to reach an Emirates rep by phone? (Booked through bank travel portal — send help)

Flying Emirates business in about 2 weeks, booked through my bank's travel portal (lesson learned). I can't call Emirates directly — I have to call the bank first, and they try to loop in an Emirates rep. About as smooth as it sounds.

I'm ticketed on the 11PM DXB–JNB departure and want to switch to the 4AM one instead, mainly so I get some actual lounge time in Dubai first. Might ask about an upgrade too while I've got someone on the line.

Anyone had luck with a particular day/time (Dubai time) to get through faster or reach someone who can actually make changes? Tips for dealing with the bank-as-middleman setup also welcome.

Thanks!

SFO-DXB-JNB

I am scheduled to fly in a few weeks and feel unsettled by the uncertainty. Yesterday’s departure from SFO was delayed five hours.
We purchased business class tickets through my bank’s travel portal, which has complicated the situation. I am considering reserving a refundable fare as a backup on an airline that avoids the region’s geopolitical issues.
I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas.
