Should I keep the car or get rid of it? (clutch replacement)

Context:
2010 Toyota Corolla, 160K, original clutch. The car is otherwise is good shape, no rust, runs/drives/starts up no issue, except for one strange thing: Going into third gear if the temperature is less than 55F (12C) it makes a grinding noise on that shift into the gear, until the engine warms up. This can be avoided either by double clutching or coasting with the clutch pedal pushed for 2-3 seconds before shifting into third gear. I've read online that changing the gear oil can fix this. (Is the oil cold?)

Issue:
Wife hates driving it due to the stiff clutch pedal. Will a new clutch help? I have to imagine at this mileage the clutch is on the way out. An issue to consider is if the grinding noise going into third gear is an enough of an issue that would make changing the clutch out on this car a waste of money.

So should I bail on the car or fix it? I could trade it in for next to nothing and buy something else but I'd prefer not to spend $10,000+ or buy someone else's problem.
