Loving the game so far, but I'm having this incredibly frustrating issue where button presses are not registering for me. I'm nearly 30 hours in, and I still can't figure out what's causing it or how to correct it.

Example of the problem: I walk up to a car door and press-and-hold LMB while it's highlighted with the scrapper equipped to scrap it. Nothing happens. Press LMB again. Nothing happens. Press LMB again. Now the scrapper starts.

This happens constantly for every tool in the game. Sometimes it happens the third button press, sometimes the second, sometimes the sixth, sometimes the first.

I play on mouse and keyboard, and I've never had this problem with any other game, ever, as long as I can remember. But it's not a mouse problem, because it even happens with the E key when I try to pick up anchors. I just had one that was in a radiated area. I kept trying to pick it up, but it took like five presses before I picked it up so I took more damage than I needed to. And then it often has a hard time placing the anchor into the ARC with LMB again. No other button presses in the game have this problem though, just using tools and grabbing/placing anchors.

Based on the fact that I can't find any other topic posted here about this issue, it seems to be exclusively happening to me for some reason. Still, I figured I'd ask here anyway if anyone has any ideas because it's just that irritating. It's genuinely tainting my experience with the game, and it would be a holy breath of fresh air if I could finally put it to rest and have my button be recognized consistently.
