Semester hasn't started, I withdrew from the hostel, but they're still charging me.
Need some advice.
I'm a 4th-year engineering student in India. Before the new semester even started, my parents informed the university that I wouldn't be staying in the hostel anymore because of serious issues with my peers that affected my mental health. There are also mold problems in my room and the mess quality isn't great. I'll be staying with my uncle, who is my local guardian.
The semester still hasn't started, but the university has already added the hostel and mess fees to my student portal and isn't removing them. We've sent multiple emails, but the only reply we got was from my mentor saying staying off-campus isn't ideal academically. Nobody has actually addressed the fee issue.
What should I do now? Should we escalate this to the Registrar or higher authorities, send a legal notice, or is there any other way to get the hostel and mess fees removed before the semester begins?
