Real Estate/looking abroad

Could we potentially look for property from abroad and buy?

I understand real estate is so different there. If the listing agent doesn’t have the listing she won’t show it, or something like that? Could someone explained this? Thank you!

Moving To France

Hello All,

My family is looking to move to Strasbourg very soon, within a year and a half is what we are hoping. I just wanted to ask some questions to help navigate that locals might be able to assist with.

Background: I am a 35-year-old teacher and my husband will be a 67-year-old flight attendant. We have one son together (4 months) and are going to have another child in the near future. We are US citizens, living in sunny Southern California. My son and I have German citizenship, making us members of the EU. With the birth of my son, I had a sudden realization I don’t want to be in the United States, where everywhere we go is a possible danger.

We started talking about moving abroad. My husband already speaks conversational French and my son had a French Au Pair, who we adore. Needless to say I really need to get on practicing and learning French. But that made us lean towards living in France and not Germany. Both of us will not be working our conventional jobs when we arrive but we will be making around 95,000 USD a year. We started looking to live in Nice and I loved the region and climate (similar to home). However, when doing my research I stumbled across Strasbourg and kind of fell in love. It seems to be more family-friendly and forward for our children.

Question: We are excited about the move, and opportunity in France. I come on asking the question of what to expect? Are schools going to be hard for my children? I hear it’s hard to register them. Is there anything we should know about that we don’t know, by just doing basic internet research.

My husband has been to Strasbourg in the 70’s and was surprised when I mentioned it a bit ago as a place to live other than Nice. He told me I would love it!

Ultimately at the end of the day I want a safe place to live with my family that we can put down roots and grow. Would you recommend Strasbourg?
