Hey kind people,

I moved to this city for work with my wife 10 days ago and we started looking for apartments immediately. Within a week we’ve decided to go for something albeit a bit expensive but relatively new in Stratford in one of the high rises close to the station. We did not have many options and I am afraid I’ve pulled the trigger too soon.

1. My wife’s a bit afraid after reading about pickpocketing and phone snatching in the area. While we come from a place where we have to look over our shoulders, the thought of being a victim of a crime in a foreign country is a bit scary. Is this area safe for women late at night? What about in the winter when days are shorter?
2. If you live there or have lived there, what do like about the area? I love that there’s a massive park, loads of activity, places to eat and the London aquatics centre so close. What would you recommend to someone just moving to the area?
3. Have I made a mistake with taking a decision so soon? The factors I considered were commute time, proximity to cafés/ restaurants and shops, and access to green spaces. We might live here temporarily while we settle here and get a feel for the different parts of the city and find a place we truly like.
