Not the train but a bus.
This morning, I was waiting for the usual 201 in Ridge and for some reason it was packed with people. The driver opened the door and told me there is another bus right behind and did not take any passengers.
Well, that was the first. Where I come from, they just let you squeeze in (there was definitely room for that). But okay I am not going to argue with a driver.
But the bus right behind was not the same 201. It said “Purple line shuttle.” Obviously I was not going to get on a bus that was not 201 because people don’t ride buses because they like the fxxxing bus but to get to a destination.
So my question is: wtf, why lie about the bus behind? I could have just went back home and read a book for like 20 minutes and come back.
Second, what is this purple line bus anyway? I couldn’t find any information on Google.

I was only here for a month and used the bus regularly to go to work (NU) only since last week.
But this morning, I was about five minutes early on my way to work and the bus that was due just vanished in the Ventra app and Transit Stop app.
Okay, I guess it could happen once but again now I am heading back home and again 4 minutes to due and it vanished!!
WT…F…? Is the CTA bus this unreliable? If I cannot get to work on time and cannot get back home on time, what is the use of this app, my money just wasted on this most unreliable transport system I have ever experienced? Please tell me there is a better tracker at least.

I am new to evanston and wanted to ask about the wheel tax. So as soon as I moved here, I did the online address change and got the vehicle registration through mail with the evanston address. However, I never got any notice about the Evanston wheel tax and only found out about through a friend. Maybe because I haven’t changed my physical DL yet? I could not get any DMV appointments so it may take a while for that.

With that being said, is it okay to just go into the website and pay for the wheel tax without getting any notice? I heard new residents typically get a mail concerning this when they move in but still waiting for it.
Also, is it true that most street parking is free if I pay the tax? (Residential areas that do not have the meters and no sign saying like 2 hour limit).

My apartment is re-doing the parking lot so they need all vehicles out of the lot for two days.
I don’t know what to do with my car for that long.
Is there a free lot that allows overnight parking? Or any lot near Main that is cheap?

I will be graduating and starting a new position in Chicago. Since it is not that far away, U-Haul would be a nice choice but my wife is not used to moving without specialists (external labor is not that expensive so its pretty standard where we come from), so I am looking for a reliable company. Now, there isn't that much to move and the only furniture that cannot be disassembled are two bed mattresses and a sofa, so maybe I can manage a 10' or 15' truck and get moving help that is offered through u-haul website?

I haven't really moved with this amount of furniture (I used to fit everything in my car and few of my friend's cars with two or three trips), so any advice is welcome. Thanks.

I got a registration renewal notice and it seems that I can do it online to get the sticker.

Now, I'm pretty sure that you don't have to do additional registration when moving within the state, so when I move to Chicago next month, it would be still fine if I registered in Champaign, correct?

The reason I want to register here is that I can do it online (when I move, the notice information will no longer be correct and I don't know if I can change my address before registration and it would still work.

So I just wanted to confirm, if anyone knows, I can do the online renewal, get the sticker to my current address, then change my address online after I move, and go to the DMV later after I moved for my DL change, correct?

I will be joining Northwestern as a postdoc this summer and I was wondering if there are any recommendations where to live.

Obviously Evanston would be great, but I was wondering if there are places that are more affordable. My wife is really sensitive about safety and I heard good and bad stuff about Rogers Park, where some of the latter made her agitated.

Are there any affordable but still very safe areas to live near Evanston? I'm expecting around $1800 max for monthly rent. I have a car but when I go to work, my wife would not be able to drive around, so public transportation and safe to go out alone are important.

It would also help to know if Evanston is still possibly the best option in this case. Thank you.

I have been driving around for a year now without a dash cam, and where I’m from, that is unusual.
I heard when you travel outside the state, officers tend to be more ruthless because you cannot come to court (I mean you can but travel all the way? People would just pay for whatever. Just what I heard from American friends).
I am planning to travel some where out in a few weeks so I got a dash cam, real cheap one tbh, but I also heard that some people might actually break into your car to steal the dash cams…which I wouldn’t mind for the cam but then the repair cost would be stressful.
Fyi, it’s not hidden and quite visible, front and rear.
So, would you leave your dash cams in your car when parked (it turns off when the car is off so no benefit when parked), or do you take it off and store it somewhere?
