Venice 6 weeks but with an injured ankle

Hello! I had planned to do a study abroad program with my school in Venice starting June. It’s a 6 week stay and I will learn Italian language. I’ve never been to the city before. I unfortunately sprained my ankle 6 weeks ago and am still healing. I’m reconsidering if I should do the program, now that I cannot walk as freely as I want.

My research says in Venice you survive by walking and water bus only, for which I will have a pass. My accommodation and school are near the vaporetto station. I also understand bridges are everywhere in the city.

My question is: how much of walking can be replaced by water bus, it looks like the water bus only runs through the Grand Canal? Is it possible to control the steps under 8k but still able to at least explore something in the city? Are the little bridges within the city manageable (stairs not too high)? The good thing is I’m in the city for a much longer time compared to typical tourists, I guess I can take the time and slow down way more. I’d also want to use the time to practice my Italian and experience local life.

Thank you!

Hello! I rolled my ankle inward three weeks ago. No bone fracture from x ray, MRI confirming grade 1 ATFL sprain and grade 2 CFL sprain, also a small osteochondrol lesion. Been on boots for the entire past 3 weeks.

I’m receiving conflicting doctor advice from ortho and podiatrist. Ortho reviewed MRI image and report and said my case for sure does not need surgery, and the lesion is not as bad as the MRI report says it’s more like a bone bruise which will heal eventually. They asked me to switch out of the boots to brace asap and start PT asap.

However, the podiatrist gave advice based on MRI report and asked me to wear boots for three more weeks and start PT after. They didn’t review the MRI imaging. They referred the lesion as a broke cartilage they may or may not heal on its own, suggesting a possibility of surgery.

I’m very confused what’s the next step considering I’m receiving conflicting medical advice, regarding whether to start PT asap, stay in the boots or not, and what’s the actual damage.

Wondering if any of you had a similar experience, would you recommend me seeking a second opinion from a different ortho or podiatrist? I guess I’m worrying if I start PT/switch out of the boots too early - I’ll interfere with recovery; or too late - I won’t gain function back as needed, muscle weakness, stiff joint, etc.

Thanks!
