Listening to Olive - Extra Virgin (1997) at the gym. Less aggressive than what I usually listen to here.

Is anyone going to Tricky in Cambridge, Ma this coming October? Should we do a meetup?

I’ve had the Sinn 544 for 3 weeks and this is what I think…

So first of all let me say that this is my first Sinn.

I was immediately impressed with the quality.

I was a little nervous if I would like the bead blasted case and I was pleasantly surprised. The dial itself is clean and incredibly legible. The AR coating on the sapphire is A+. The lume markers are fine. Better lume than other watches I’ve had but don’t expect the world out of it. The feel of the watch on the wrist is comfortable and perfectly wraps around my 7” wrist with two links removed.

The new Sellita movement is nice and has settled in to +4-+5 seconds a day. I should state that this is my GADA daily wear and works well with jeans and a t-shirt as well as a button down with dress khakis.

The best thing about this watch is that it has its own identity. I know it shares DNA with 80s IWC references but this is most definitely a Sinn.

I look forward to wearing this watch for years to come.

Should you get one?

If you have a 6 3/4” wrist and up yes. It’s an amazing watch for around $2200 USD (2026 prices). You also know that the movement and watch will be semi-easily serviceable. I don’t see Sinn going anywhere in the foreseeable future and any watchmaker can work on a Sellita if need be.

As far as modern triphop is concerned I think Trickpony - Pillow Talk (2024) is best in class.

Laika - Sounds of the Satellites (1997) and Good Looking Blues (2000) are so diverse. SotS is hazy and GLB is kinetic.

I’m about to drop Mandalay - Empathy (1998) into my CD player, put on headphones, and zone out.

544 arrived today and it was better than I expected. Originally ordered the RS version and switched to Monochrome because of availability and happy I did.

Puracane - Things You Should Leave Alone (2000)

This album is essential to the genre.

my scarlet life - buzzbomb (1998)

How did it take me this long in life to find this band. Their album ‘Infrared’ is amazing too.
