Tommy Guerrero "It Gets Heavy" 2003 Mo'Wax

featuring Gresham Taylor on vox. definitely blues inspired with some lo-fi boom bap. Has that longing feel, with slinky/stoned/woozy accoutremont.

This album is mostly instrumental guitars & beats (Lyrics Born shows up on another excellent cut) and is a great summer porch record.

Looking for an album

So a few years ago I was obsessed with an album and I can’t remember the name or the artist and i just really want to hear it again.

It sounded like it was a soundtrack. Real cinematic!!!

Like a slightly Tarantino movies feel.

The vocals were French / French accent femal vocalist

The album cover was black and red.

One of the tracks had “the angels have …..” in the lyrics

Please help me find it!!!

Posted by Mixmaster Morris on Threads: "Starter's Guide to Downtempo"

it's heavily skewed late 90s-early 2ks, but that's monoculture for ya. Solid choices and decision points.

Looking for indie Trip Hop tracks for a new playlist

Hey everyone,

I am an indie musician with a great love for trip hop sounds. I am building a new Trip Hop playlist (Spotify and Apple Music platforms at the moment) I intend to regularly curate in the future. I have no problem with selecting and following the releases of the established names out there, but I'd love to reserve some spots to highlight the work of fellow indie artists.

So, if you are an independent producer in the genre and you'd like a couple of more ears on your music (mine!), DM me (so we don't spam the sub) your Spotify track link together with a quick sentence about your sound (or all the sentences you feel like to share). Just please be consistent with the genre and no AI slop.

Thank you!

Listening to Olive - Extra Virgin (1997) at the gym. Less aggressive than what I usually listen to here.

Trip hop for the summer like Simple Things - Zero 7

I love trip hop music that has a summer vibe. I think Mezzanine or Dummy are perfect for a dark, grey and foggy day. Also I really want to recommend the Album Ison by Sevdaliza for that.

But for the summer, I lovee ! the album Simple Things by Zero 7. The songs without lyrics are so perfect for a warm, fuzzy relaxation moment, and the ones with singing literally enchant me.

I've been recommended Morcheeba for this vibe, and I really liked Addison Rae's "Headphones On" as well.

Any more recommendations? ☀️

Edit: I also liked some songs by Thievery Corporation, I need to get into them more as well!

An unfortunate find. (Zero 7, "Simple Things")

I occasionally see "roadkill" CDs in this back alley - perhaps thrown from a window, or stolen goods or what have you.

Of all the CDs - it could have been Barbara Streisand*, or James Taylor, or Ja Rule - but nope. I felt a little sad seeing this one; I hope it had been enjoyed before ending up here. I happen to own the 2xLP. Lots of bangers on this album, hard to pick a fave. "This World" might be it, but lots of runners-up. "Distractions" is also fantastic.

Also: Bonus Battle Axe records CD, probably some interesting stuff on there.

*Side note: I actually saw a Barbara Streisand CD right nearby a few days before this one, hah. No disrespect, but it didn't have the same emotional pull.

very early (late 80s-early 90s) trip hop/downtempo/"bristol sound" recommendations?

i have not heard much of it but ive liked what ive heard of it (mostly blue lines & a few smith & mighty songs) where it sounds closer 2 hip hop/r&b of the time but still has identifiable elements of what it eventually became, there doesnt seem 2 be a lot of it sadly which is why im asking this rn

I'm looking for some lesser known trip hop artists with female vocalists, any recs?

I adore Puracane, so anything similar to them I would love. I also like more pop-y sounding artists with trip hop influences, like After. I enjoy Björk's first two albums too. I'd love some more reccomendations as I'd love to dive into the genre more. Thanks!!
