Anyone know where to buy a fan nearby? We've looked at a few places in Passey and not found any. Do the French just like being hot?

Ok, so I decided to rent a car for the four weeks we'll be in Cham (staying in Les Houches). I have a car reserved with Hertz, which is on the Swiss side. I plan on driving in all three UTMB countries (no, not during the race itself). Should I have got a car on the French side? What extra sorts of things will I need to be able to drive in France and Italy if I stick with the Swiss rental? Reading online has only made me more confused about the whole thing and now I'm feeling stressed with our trip coming up in a few days. The car was the cheapest I could find, so I'm hoping to stick with it (though I could change since I haven't paid anything yet).

Staying in Les Houches for the month of August with my wife and daughter. We're thinking about taking a couple of days to go to Paris at some point; any tips on the least expensive way to get there? I assume there's probably a better way than taking the bus back to Geneva and catching the train from there. Perhaps from St. Gervais?

I'm spending a bunch of time trying to learn the area and the easiest ways to get about, but it's very time consuming!
