Getting to Paris

Staying in Les Houches for the month of August with my wife and daughter. We're thinking about taking a couple of days to go to Paris at some point; any tips on the least expensive way to get there? I assume there's probably a better way than taking the bus back to Geneva and catching the train from there. Perhaps from St. Gervais?

I'm spending a bunch of time trying to learn the area and the easiest ways to get about, but it's very time consuming!

Last minute Mnt Blanc guided ascent spots?

I live around the area, not a lot of money. Do local guide companies sometimes have last minute spots that they give away for a discounted price to solo people? Is this heard of?

Thank you!

TMB to Mont Blanc question

Hello,

Ive been wondering since theres no exact info about TMB. We are planning to summit Mont Blanc this season and as we all know it is essantial to get on train that takes us on the mountain in the first place. But i was not able to gather any information for what to do exactly. I have been on like 3 almost identical pages which all provide MONT BLANC Multipass where TMB is included, but theres no option on booking a TMB term.

Could please someone get us any info if Multipass is needed in order to get on mountaineering train or is it possible to buy on site?

Is there need of booking a place on the train or smth like that? And if, where can we do it?

If someone could provide us some information please, iam starting to get a little frustrated as i wrote and official email to like 3 companies which told me that TMB is newly under another company etc etc.. Iam really confused in this matter and i wouldnt want us to miss the train.

Les Houches - Restaurant/bar recommendations

Hi,

I'll be coming to Chamonix on the 23rd May for 7 nights, with a friend and our sons (15 and 13). We're staying in Les Houches and were wondering if anyone had any recommendations for restaurants and bars in Les Houches, or close by.

It appears that Le Solerey is temporarily closed but it doesn't say until when on their website. Does anyone know when it will re-open?

Thanks

To those who have been in chamonix recently (may 2026), how were the trails?

considering going next week and I was just wondering what the vibes are like in the town. also how the trails are as in are they quiet, is below 2000m doable, what the snow coverage is like.

photos are welcome!

Unexpected trip to Chamonix with a baby

We’re currently in Chamonix for 2 days after a pretty spontaneous decision during the holidays. Drove all the way from Belgium with our little one who’s under 1 year old 😅

Looking for recommendations from people who know the area well:
- best scenic spots accessible with a stroller
- easy family-friendly walks
- viewpoints/cable cars worth doing
- nice cafés/restaurants with a baby
- anything we absolutely shouldn’t miss in 2 days

Weather seems a bit mixed, so indoor suggestions are also welcome.

Thanks!

Is 1700/mo enough?

I’ve been offered a job paying 1700 a month with FREE accommodation included.
For a mountain bike ski bum lifestyle this summer, will 1700 be enough to get by?
