SOTD: Apex Plus & 7SP

Tried out this combination today and it worked really well. Blade was smooth and cut efficiently. Even ATG pass was handled without much drama. Could be one of my daily pairings, will check out how long it lasts with this razor. Second shaves are normally better with this blade so looking forward to it.

This brush is coming along beautifully and I can already feel the knot opening up and the bristles softening even further.

Overall a very satisfying shave! Cheers!!

SOTD: Zenith Manchurian Badger, Aylsworth Apex Plus & Feather

Recently acquired this beauty of a brush, and after a couple of test lathers to help break it in, I finally used it in today's shave, and what a brush! It has the perfect combination of softness and scrub and the tips already feel super luxurious. This will only improve with continued use and I am looking forward to what this brush might become :P The density is pretty good and in spite of that,, it releases lather pretty well.

Feather & Apex worked like a charm and gave me a super efficient 2 pass BBS. Not calling it a true BBS as I could feel very slight stubble along my lower neckline, but the efficiency to smoothness ratio was almost perfect.

Overall, one of the best shaves in recent times.

Happy Sunday to all! Cheers!!

SOTD: Independence Day Desi Shave!

Went for an all Desi shave on account of Independence Day. Got a wonderful DFS+ shave, and the Hammer and V12 pairing worked surprisingly well. This cream & ASL set has one of the best fragrances in my shaving den- so soothing and invigorating. Performance is good and the ASL is actually one of the most moisturising splashes that I have used.

Happy Independence Day!

SOTD: 1 year of logged shaves!

Today marks exactly 1 year since I started logging shaves. Probably 5-6 days ago was my one year wet shaving anniversary lol. Went for a tried and tested razor and blade pairing and my god does it deliver. I have only liked Feather blades in my Rocca, have to try them out in the Apex too. But what a pairing it is, so efficient without compromising on comfort.

A very close and smooth shave overall.

Cheers & Happy shaving!

SOTD: Yaqi Shave!

Went for a shave with mostly Yaqi products.

The 2 band badger knot from Yaqi is actually very decent and punches above its price point IMO. Quite a dense knot, has plenty of scritch and releases lather quite well. Not the softest bristles, but at the price point I'm not complaining.

Very comfortable 2 pass DFS+ with no irritation. The blade was on it's 3rd use today and paired with the Slant 37, there was definitely some loss of efficiency. IME, Slant 37 works really well with very sharp blades.

Yaqi ASL is pretty damn good and provides good moisturisation and relief.

Cheers & Happy shaving gentlemen!

SOTE: Apex Plus & Permasharp Round 2

As expected, the second shave with the Permasharp was much better and it resulted in a smooth and efficient shave. However, Gillette Platinums, Nacets & Permasharp rustguards work better with this razor so this is not going to be a favoured pairing.

Nemo Shepherd lathers beautifully as always and the post shave feel is so, so good! A wonderful and satisfying shave overall with no irritation.

Cheers!

SOTD: 10th use of the Muhle Blade

Today was the 10th outing of the Muhle blade, and what a blade. Still felt sharp and smooth and did not tug anywhere. I am pretty sure I can get another couple of shaves with this but I'm trashing this as 10 uses are good enough for me. This blade feels quite smooth and mild and yet doesn't sacrifice efficiency at all.

Happy shaving gents!

SOTD: Sunday Shave with Permasharp & Apex Plus

Pretty good shave. IME, Permasharps offer better shaves from their 2nd-4th uses so I am reserving judgement for now for this pairing.

So sad, Woodspice is disontinued now, their range of AS balms were amongst my all time favourites. This one was purchased circa 2015 and I thought I should finally finish it off. Still have one more bottle of the OG Woodspice that I'm trying to save.

Happy Sunday everyone!

WTS: Razors and Brushes

  1. TGS Bayonetta: Full unleaded CNC brass construction. .65 blade gap and +.125 exposure. In great condition but has developed some natural patina over time. Can be polished out if required. Quite mild on the skin and great for beginners as well. Efficiency is much higher than what the stats would suggest. Pretty close to Rocca efficiency wise when paired with a sharp blade. Excellent clamping. Asking price: Rs 4,000/- + shipping.
  2. Yaqi Ghost 90SB with Bolt handle: 316L SS CNC machined head and handle. Very versatile, can be classified as balanced to medium aggressive depending on the blade. .90 gap and unknown exposure, although I feel like it is neutral. Excellent condition, only some micro scratches on the handle which are not visible unless standing in direct sunlight. Again, very good for beginners and experienced shavers alike. Current prices after Yaqi sale discount are around 5.6k. Asking Price: Rs 4,000/- + shipping.
  3. Frank Shaving Silvertip badger 20mm: Very soft and quite luxurious, great for face lathering. Releases lather pretty well and is not a lather hog. Used 3-4 times by me. Asking price: Rs 2,000/- + shipping.
  4. Boti Motherlode 28mm knot on UM handle: Super soft, super dense knot, made to mimic the feel of a silvertip badger on the face. There is almost no backbone and it feels like being massaged by velvet when face lathering. Asking Price: Rs 1,200/- + shipping

Selling all these to fund a new purchase and to declutter and reduce redundancy in my den, which was long overdue. If anyone purchases more than a single item, shipping is on me. Can also negotiate slightly if purchasing more than a single item. All items will be sanitised with Dettol water and given another thorough cleaning before being dispatched.

Thank you for your interest!

SOTD: Rocca + Nacet

Had been travelling for the past week so had been absent from the community! And because of that, Austere August was a no for me this year. Next year maybe.

The shave was excellent and the Rocca keeps reminding me why it's such a great razor. What a wonderful balance of efficiency and comfort this razor has.

Cheers & happy shaving gents!

SOTD: Rocca + Astra SP

One of my most comfortable 3 pass shaves so far. Skin feels very calm and relaxed even though alum stung at a few places along the jawline and on the neck. Still a very good and comfortable shave. I have realised that my skin is able to tolerate alternate day 3 pass & 2 pass shaves. Weather cooling down & subsequent reduction in sweating through the day has also helped I guess.

The "ring of death" has finally appeared on this soap, will probably be my first tub kill. Will post pictures once it is more pronounced.

Cheers & Happy Shaving!

SOTE: Pearl Hammer CC + Gillette Platinum

Decent shave today with the Pearl Hammer CC base plate. This blade was on its 4th use today and seemed to be on its last legs. Wasn't the best shave but it got the job done.

I prefer the OC plate to this as it feels smoother and is just as efficient if not more. This razor feels quite aggressive on the skin and the blade feel is noticeable, especially around the jawline area. I got a 2 pass DFS with no irritation.

Omega 20102 is quite a nice brush, it is quite dense and it feels really nice on the face.

Happy shaving gents!

SOTD: Rocca vs Apex Plus

After going for a 3 pass shave with the Apex Plus yesterday, I decided to go for a 3 pass shave with the Rocca & the same blade today and I think I have a fairly decent grasp of things now**.**

Efficiency: The Apex Plus is noticeably more efficient than the Rocca while going for 2 passes. However, it is fairly close when it comes to a full 3 pass shave. Differences are very minimal, if present. Maybe a slight edge to the Apex Plus, but it is much closer than I thought it would be if I'm being honest.

Comfort: This is where things get interesting. Rocca is definitely gentler on the skin and feels slightly smoother for the WTG & XTG passes. Apex Plus is also very smooth but there is definitely a higher blade feel and you have to be much more mindful and concentrate on your shave. It is deceptively smooth.

But, the steeper angle (more intuitive for me) and the presumably better clamping of the Apex makes it easier for me on the ATG pass. While I didn't have any blade chatter today with the Rocca, you can feel that the blade is more rigid in the Apex plus.

Rocca is an excellent daily shaver and doesn't require much concentration to use once you have a few shaves under the belt. It is quite forgiving and yet very efficient, gives a more than acceptable shave after 2 passes. I have even shaved in the dark with this razor and I find it very hard to cut yourself while using it.

The Apex Plus on the other hand has amazing efficiency. 2 passes are more than enough to get you into almost BBS territory, and probably a touch-up pass around the Adam's apple and chin area would be enough to get a BBS. But it does feel slightly scarier to use, and demands your attention and respect while you are shaving.

Both are excellent razors and offer something unique in terms of the shave and experience. Also worth mentioning is that the Rocca sings while cutting, whereas the Apex plus is near silent.

Cheers & hope you all have a wonderful week ahead!!

Thank you for reading! 😄

SOTD: Apex Plus & Gillette Platinum

Used the Gillette Platinum today since I had seen Kaleb use these with his Apex. And man, what a combination. So smooth and yet very sharp and very efficient. Probably, the best pairing for this razor so far. Need to shave a couple more times with this but it easily gave me the best shave in recent memory.

Went a full 3 passes and the result was a true BBS. No nicks or irritation, just some alum feedback on the jawline and the chin area.

I received this ASL today itself and it seems pretty nice. Lovely fresh smell of lemon & grapefruit with some floral note backing it up. Very refreshing and it went very well with Seville.

An amazing shave overall, perfect for a Sunday!

Cheers & hope everyone has had an amazing weekend!

SOTE: Silvermax SP & Apex Plus

This was another great pairing, after u/psychonaut7343's suggestion. Blade feels extremely smooth and does not drag at all. It delivered an amazing almost BBS shave and so far it has been one of the best pairings for me, just behind the Nacet.

Yaqi soap works very well with boars and it delivered an amazingly slick and protective lather. Really love the Yaqi ASL as well, very soothing and moisturising.

Cheers!

SOTD: Apex Plus & Astra SP

Another very good shave with the Apex plus. The efficiency is addictive.

However this particular blade & razor pairing isn't the best, and I felt the same slight drag while using the razor- especially around the chin area. Not a bad shave at all, but both the Nacet & and Permasharp rustguards worked way better with this razor.

The Shepherd is an amazing soap with excellent slickness and post shave moisturisation. Brought this one out after a long time and it was just as good as I remembered it to be.

I really do hope Nemo starts using a container with a bigger opening, it would make loading a lot easier and I would be able to use my larger brushes with it.

Cheers! 🥂

SOTE: Sunday Shave!

Another great shave with the Apex Plus. For today, I paired with an Astra SP blade and this wasn't the best combination for me. While the shave was very comfortable and efficient, it felt as if the blade was facing some resistance while cutting. So, it felt a bit rough even though it was not.

Scarn is an amazing dupe of Dior Sauvage and the scent feels perfect for the current weather.

Balm is quite thick in consistency, might be great in winters. Good moisturisation.

Cheers & hope you all enjoyed your Sunday!

SOTE: A very satisfying shave!

Today's shave was extremely comfortable and efficient. I am getting the hang of this razor now and it continues to surprise me with how deceptively smooth it is while being extremely efficient. I think this might finally take the place of the Rocca as my favourite razor. Very, very efficient and yet comfortable enough to be used daily.

Cheers & a happy weekend ahead to everyone!

SOTE: Apex Plus + Permasharp Rustguard

This is the 2nd blade that I've tried in this razor after the Nacet and it was again a very good combintation. The shave felt more aggressive but the efficiency was higher as well.

In 2 passes I managed to get a true BBS on the cheeks which was very surprising! Neck and chin were easily a DFS++. All this, with no irritation except a small area around the Adam's apple where I might have been a little heavy handed. I put it down more to me rather than the razor & blade pairing.

The new Yaqi base is amazing, maybe even slightly better than Stirling in terms of residual slickness and texture. Love the scent on this as well.

Overall, another very satisfying shave with the Apex plus.

Cheers & Happy Shaving!

SOTD: 300th shave & Aylsworth Apex Plus SS

Today was my 300th shave with a DE and also my first shave with this beauty of a razor!

The razor is quite a substantial one and feels very good and premium in the hand. I got it with the Plus plate which has a blade gap of 0.99 and a positive exposure of 0.125. Paired it with a fresh Nacet for my first shave and the razor did not disappoint at all.

It is very intuitive to find the right angle and it clears the stubble silently and efficiently. Even on my first shave, I can say that this is the most efficient razor in my den as of now. There is some blade feel- a little more than the Rocca, and less than the Hammer. Just enough to remind you that you have a sharp blade against your skin, nothing uncomfortable.

I went for 2.5 passes today- WTG, XTG and an ATG pass on the neck and the chin area. This was enough to give me a BBS, equivalent to a full 3 pass shave with the Rocca. I believe the shaves will only get better with time as I try out other blade pairings and refine my technique.

There was a slight alum sting around the neck area but other than that, everything was quiet. No irritation at all and the skin feels relaxed and smooth!

Thank you for reading! Cheers!
