Late Night Shave | SOTN • 10 Jun 2026

SOTD • 10 Jun 2026

Posting after a rather long hiatus.

The evening had promised an early night, office concluded at a civil hour, bed beckoned with uncharacteristic mercy. Alas, insomnia had other plans. Rather than stare at the ceiling, I decided to go for a late-night shave.

Mid-preparation I discovered my shaving brush had mysteriously vanished. A brief search yielded nothing, so I turned to Blinkit and was quite honestly, pleasantly surprised; they sell decent enough shaving brushes now. Progress, I suppose.
This was my first outing with the Urbanmooch synthetic brush. It is supposed to imitate badger hair, although I have never used any real animal hair brush so i’m not the best judge in this regard (hoping on getting on this year). Still, it lathered the vicco cream with impressive speed and produced a pretty rich and dense foam.

It has been some time since I’ve been active in the community. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed observing everyone’s excellent SOTDs from the sidelines. Decided that it was time to stop lurking and rejoin the ranks properly.
Sleep remains elusive, which explains this post at 2 AM. One must make use of the wakeful hours I guess.
I must confess I’m beginning to feel the familiar itch for a razor upgrade. The heart grows restless, even (or especially) in matters of wet shaving.
P.S. Reintroduced Tata cold-pressed coconut oil as pre-shave after a long while. The result was excellent

Mail Call! 📦🪒

After a long wait since 15.05.2026, my Captain Nemo’s order has finally arrived! 😁
Pictured:
- Vintage Shaving Soap
- The Shepherd (Wool Fat Recipe) Shaving Soap
- Green Ice Aftershave
First impressions are excellent, and I’m especially curious to see how the two soaps perform in terms of lather, slickness, and post-shave feel.

SOTD: Chill Shave!

Shaved with one of my favourite summer soaps! Freezes your face off and the fragrance is very nice too. Lather has loads of residual slickness and can take a lot of water.

I think I might need to get the Green Ice ASL to go with this.

Bayonetta is a deceptively efficient razor- paired with the 365 it mows down stubble effortlessly while being gentle on the skin. One of my favourite pairings so far, thank you to u/psychonaut7343 for this recommendation.

Cheers & Happy shaving!

Parker Razor with 316 handle

Just curious are there any Parker Razors that come with 316 SS handles? If they do come, how are they faring with the Parker Zamak heads (I am pretty sure there are no Parker 316 SS heads)?

  • Stubble: 3 days
  • Brush: Omega #10081
  • Razors: Pearl hammer OC
  • Aftershave: Shavologist Yellow death

With the summer heat at its max, nothing beats the combo of Ittar and Citrusy notes. Hence, I had been on Majumua and Yellow Death. The major difference in using shaving soaps vs creams is soaps take more time and hence more prep and smoother glide and slickness during shaving as a result. Hair become kind of extra-soft. One tiny weeper with older Permasharp Stainless because I am still getting used to adjusting Hammer's heavier and thicker head. Alum sealed the weeper in a minute

A very nice and DFS though. So much joy out of Hammer I am getting. Yellow Death felt too strong, hence bought-off some ethyl alcohol from amazon to reduce the strong fragrance. And then some natural camphor from Patanjali (for cooling effect). Worked out excellent.

SOTD - Monday Evening - 08/06/26

Razor : Yaqi Scalloped Head + Pearl Fatty Handle - This head blew me away. At first the blade exposure was kinda intimidating, a patient and slow technique with minimal pressure ensured there were no major injuries. It mowed down 2 day stubble growth like butter. Extremely efficient.

Blade : Gillette Wilkinson Sword

Brush : Yaqi Silvertip Badger - the first use of the badger involved face lathering. It was certainly impressive, but not mind blowing. It did create a lot of lather, which was creamy in texture, but it wasn’t really dispensing that lather properly and keeping it inside the bristles. Once or twice, I had to push the lather out by pressing the knot. This time I tried bowl lathering. I put the Godrej cream in the bowl, a little bit of water, then started swirling the badger around and within 3-4 swirls, the lather exploded like anything (2nd pic for reference). I had not seen such a lather explosion before, I had only seen it in YouTube videos and then I realized the hype. Now this does not mean everyone needs a badger, of course, but there is a certain charm to it. But synthetics also can create as much lather if not more, maybe not this effortlessly. So a good experience this time with lathering.

Cream : Godrej Cinthol Menthol - Amazing fragrance and cooling effect. Decent slickness.

ASL : Denim Original - Gifted by my dad after he heard he been getting more into wet shaving, very sweet of him 🙌🏼 classic barbershop fragrance.

Passes : WTG + ATG - I was apprehensive about the second pass after a cut-free careful first pass, went careful with the second pass as well but did catch a nick at the bottom of the nostril, mustache is easily my most challenging part of the shave as the growth direction is all over the place and end up nicking myself while chasing a clean shave there. Other than that, everything was baby smooth

Result : Almost BBS!

Thanks for reading, have a nice day all.

Advice sought regarding shaving brush

Good day to the family.

I am looking forward to buying an Omega Boar brush. The product that I've zeroed in on is linked.
https://lelow.online/product/omega-11126-shaving-brush/

In case anyone has used it or can give me input regarding this, I would be highly grateful.

Any other suggestion regarding some other brush is also welcome. This is going to be my first brush which is costs this much. The ones I have used prior to this have been below Rs 100 and Rs 300.

Total Noobie

Hi Everyone!

I am a total noob on a shaving journey. I have always used a trimmer and have only got a full shave a few times from the barber.

But now, I want to look professional with a clean shave everyday.

Read a lot of reviews on this sub and am a bit confused with so many opinions. Can you please guide me with basic equipment that I need to buy and other tips.

Shave - Daily basis

Budget- would prefer under 1.5k-2k (but open to more if it is worth it)

Thanks a lot in advance!!

Mühle R41 query

I am planning on buying a r41 next month, should I order it from amazon or is there a trusted vendor in the community? I am asking because i saw a few posts where people had received fake items from amazon.

Also, side question: is anyone aware of any upcoming shavologist drops?

Edit: I use a bsc razor right now which I find to be too mild despite not having v dense beard. I also believe it has certain alignment issues which developed over the last 3 months but I have reached a point where I don’t get any nicks anymore.

Before-the-Bath Bliss

Pre: Patanjali Aloe Vera Gel + Virgin Coconut Oil
Razor: Parker Semi-Slant
Blade: Parker Premium Platinum (3rd Use)
Brush: Den of Man
Cream: Park Avenue
Post: Alum → Bath → Rubab Balm (Gifted by u/okiedokiecool) → Minimalist HOCL

The Park Avenue cream lacked lather but made up for it with decent slickness. The Parker Semi-Slant and Parker Premium Platinum combo was exceptionally smooth.

2 passes (WTG, XTG) with a little ATG on the lower lip. Minimal alum feedback. Leftover lather was used as a face wash before the bath.

Result: DFS+, almost BBS.

SOTD: Muhle Blades!

Very relaxing Sunday shave with this combination. Seville is a top notch soap in all respects- the base is amazing and the fragrance is quite well done.

Muhle blades have been the smoothest and most comfortable ones I have used so far. Very smooth, and sharp enough to cut cleanly without even a hint of a tug. Sadly, they cost almost Rs 50 a blade, and are therefore not good as daily drivers. This was only my 2nd use of the blade and paired with the Rocca, they are efficient and smooth as butter. So far the blade does not seem to have dulled at all.

I think I might save these blades for occasions when the skin is irritated and I still need to shave.

Cheers & a Happy weekend!

Consolidated SOTD post - Last 3 shaves

Today's shave (Pic 1)

- Growth: 2 days

- Razor: Blackland Blackbird

- Blade: Gillette 7sp

- Brush: Oumo Kirin

- Soap: Stirling MITA

- Splash: Clubman Pinaud Musk

Pic 2

- Growth: 4 days

- Razor: Green Cult 2.0 Plate 2 OC

- Blade: GWS

- Brush: Boti White Boar

- Soap: DG Dirtyver

- Splash: Proraso Green

Pic 3

- Growth: 3 days

- Razor: Muhle R41

- Blade: Feather (x1)

- Brush: Oumo Pigsy Boar

- Soap: Stirling Cool Blue

- Splash: Aqua Velva Ice Blue

Last 3 shaves combined in 1 post. One common denominator, aggressive razors paired with sharp blades. I was talking to someone the other day, and this topic came up as to how newcomers are often advised to pair Sharper blades with milder razors and milder blades for aggressive razors. But very often it also results in a habit where people then assume that that should also be.

For example, I personally feel, that R41 works best with Feather. The geometry and the Feather blade will work together to give you an irritation free shave where you don't have to buff, and hence no repeat strokes.

The work of late was quite hectic, and hence didn't get the time to post these SOTD's on the day of the shave, but have been lurking on the sub nonetheless.
