Help with my son asking for me all day at school!

My son is level 2, minimally speaking, just started kindergarten last month. I love his teacher, he has a 1 on 1 aide, I feel very fortunate.

The same feedback at the end of everyday is “he says “mommy’s coming” non stop all day long. He has a visual schedule and they have printed a photo of me and put it at the end of the day and remind him I’m coming at the end of the day. It’s actually becoming more constant instead of slowing down as he settles into his new class

Does anyone have any advice or help with this? My heart breaks knowing he asks for me all day long. I know how he gets when he gets an idea in his head and it’s relentless. When it happens to me at home, I just repeat over and over and OVER when the activity that he’s excited for is happening.

Any help or suggestions if this happens to anyone else would be very much appreciated ❤️

Potty training/laxatives

Hello!

We’ve been potty training for going on two years. My son is withholding like crazy and I’m pretty sure it’s the result of some painful poos. So we started on and off with laxatives, I was only using them when he became very constipated from holding it in for so long. When it happens, obviously at first it’s a crazy poo, then he has like pretty mushy ones that are hard to time getting him to the potty. Then there’s this sweet spot where they’re soft and he will walk to the potty all on his own and go with no issues and it’s the best thing ever.

Then a few days later, the cycle starts again. So after some advice and listening to our dr, we are going to try a steady flow of laxative to keep him regular and soft so that hopefully he isn’t afraid and won’t withhold anymore.

My question for parents that have done this, is what kind of dosage are you doing? Should we just stay at roughly half or less so that he isn’t running to the potty urgently, just want to keep things smooth for him until he gets the hang of things.

When does it stop hurting

Mom of 5 year old level 2 boy. We just had to leave his daycare “graduation”. He hated the music, he was all out of sorts, he didn’t understand why all the parents were in the daycare and not leaving. I didn’t want to go but I felt I owed to him to try. I’m mad I even had hope it would go well.

Watching all the other kids just hop up on stage and sing and wave to their parents, parents with their phones out proudly taking videos. It is such a far away concept to me, I can’t even imagine how it must feel.

When does the pain and grief stop hurting? I keep putting us out there to get used to it, to try and de-sensitize myself but the bigger the gap becomes between my son’s delays and typical kids growth the more it hurts. It always ends the same. Im just so sad today.

Title says it all.

What kills me is we get so close to achieving it and then my son (age 5, level 2) just stops or regresses. My best guess is he has a painful #2 and then becomes scared maybe. 3 months ago, I thought maybe we had achieved it. He was withholding but after a few days of a gentle laxative, he would go to the potty by himself and go. Fast fwd 3 months and he’s not even trying anymore, he’s just doing full poos in his pants. So without a lax, he holds it in for days on end and becomes terribly constipated. And with the laxative, he just goes in his pants. He also went from running to the potty on his own to kicking and screaming and having a huge meltdown if we ask him to go sit. (Hence why I think something must have happened)

Any advice would be great 🫠🫠🫠

Hello!

My son, age 5, level 2 asd has been in ABA for nearly 3 years. I know not everyone loves aba, we do, my son runs to the door when our therapist arrives, he loves it. We have a great relationship with her, I know it’s not always the case.

We live in Canada and have been doing it for 4 hours a week while my son is in daycare. Since we are starting real school soon, I don’t think we are going to continue the sessions just with the cost and the school schedule etc I think we will keep her on board to help with the integration at school but I think we’re going to stop or maybe drop down to one afternoon session a week.

With that said, im starting to get hit with a lot of RDI content online and I’m getting curious about it. Like I mentioned, I am happy with our BCBA but I think like all of you, I just want to be well informed on what kind of therapies and tools are out there.

My question is, can you do RDI after doing ABA or am I taking a huge step backwards? Does it make sense, do any of you do RDI and like it? Any pros and cons? Just anything you’d like to share about it.

Thanks in advance, I swear autism parent Reddit is the best, you guys never let me down
