They adore the object

Thank you guys for your help!! Fried rice and friends are doing great in their new home in my workplace. They got right to work on all the algae. And I set up their sponge filter.

Since this tank used to belong to a fish and I have not used big fish tanks very much before, there’s some equipment in there, and I don’t know what it does.

The shrimp particularly seemed to like this object that I have a picture of here. It seems to be on a timer and circulates water around. I was worried that it might suck them in and so I turned it off. Then I came back to see like 3 of them standing on it eating so I don’t necessarily want to take it out. The little pieces of plant the shrimp came with kind of got stuck in it somehow but none of the shrimp seemed to have.

Does anybody know what it is? Or the other thing that’s also in the second picture for that matter? Thanks again for all your help.

Bonus picture of orange shrimp on rock. I think the dark spots are her ovaries but I’m unsure.

Am I screwed

I’m trying to do a tank with potted plants… I was setting it up and it seemed to be going well but I bumped one of my pots when I was putting water in and all the sand came out. Garden soil went everywhere 😭 very high clay content too.

I’m a beginner… any advice? I’d like to put some shrimp in here eventually (5gallons) and I feel like every time I go to catch some (which is why I tried to go with moveable pots) the water will get like this. I don’t think they will like that. I don’t mind if it looks bad as long as it’s healthy.

If it helps the plants are frogbit, Java fern, Java moss and hornwort. From what I understand they are ok with higher turbity but I am worried they will not be able to absorb enough light if I leave it to settle.

This was supposed to be relaxing (lol).

I should not have put this tank on such a high ass bookshelf.

Fried Rice and friends survived house fire

Hi I just posted like a couple hours ago about getting some advice for some new shrimp I got in some Tupperware. This just happened so I am still shook up but I wanted to share this because it is helping me feel better I think. Also you guys might think it’s nice.

After I got the new shrimp in their new container and put them in the basement (so the cats wouldn’t bother them) I went upstairs and was doing laundry and stuff and noticed a burning smell and discovered a fire in the basement where the shrimp were.

We all had to leave and call the fire department and I was really worried about the cats because they ran and hid and couldn’t get them.

Somebody had left a laptop that sitting on some cardboard and it caught fire and burnt a good deal of the basement.

The awesome thing is that all of the shrimp (and the cats) are fine!!!

They are just sitting there like they don’t even know what a fire is. They were in the part that didn’t get burned.

I was so freaked out but when I saw the shrimp just sitting there all normal it made me laugh really hard.

They are little

I just got some freshwater shrimp (neos) for the first time after doing a little research because our fish at work died and I thought the empty tank was kinda sad. I am going to put them in a 10 gallon tank with a lot of established plants. It’s been a couple months since the fish died but we kept it running because we didn’t want to kill the little snails.

I also bought a sponge filter but I don’t know how to set it up as I didn’t set up the original tank. I also was not the one who cared for the fish originally though I have had bettas before.

I think the 2 reds are females and there are 2 blue males and one of each orange.

The guy at the Shrimp Store said they would be ok in an open Tupperware until I get them to work in the morning.

He also said to feed them once every 2 days which seems like a lot from what I read online. I don’t want to overfeed them but have algae wafers that are maybe the size of a quarter and also some shrimp food I got at the store.

How often do you recommend I change out the water? I have heard everything from once a week to once a month. Would pure distilled water work for this purpose? We have a DI tap at work.

Thank you :) All of my coworkers are going to help name the shrimp. I have decided to name one of the red females Fried Rice.

Tips for using the B. B wand?

I just got the B. B wand and remembered this area right above the spikey wall with the seahorse boss. No matter how many bubbles I spam I can hardly get up into this hallway.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to properly use the wand to get up here? Thanks.
