Is KBD necessary after a certain rank?

I’m relatively new to tekken and I understand that KBD isn’t as good as it used to be in previous tekken games, however, I wonder if there is a certain rank where it becomes almost a must do if you want to have a chance to win? Or is it not necessary?

Also is it easier to do on ps5 controller than stick, if anyone reading has experience with both?

For context, I’m only GoD but wondering whether I should start to practice KBD or it’s just a waste of time in tekken 8.

Reached GoD without matchup knowledge

Started playing tekken for the first time around 3 months ago and I still don’t know the matchups except maybe 5 or 6 characters since I learned while playing against them because they show up the most in queue. The main things I did that helped were:

  1. do as little punishable moves as possible to force the opponent to take risks to get damage

  2. if they know the matchup against your character then try to make that to your advantage if possible

  3. Throws. You need to break throws. Always keep your fingers ready for 1,2 or 1+2, especially near walls against characters that have wall splat throws such as king or Steve always gotta be ready to press 1+2

  4. know the panic move for your character if you are up against a spammer and if it doesn’t work then try sidestepping or see if you can duck and punish or interrupt with while crouching 1

  5. if your opponent is constantly just sidestepping then try to include homing moves while poking.

Not sure if this will help anyone but wanted to share.

Also if anyone is wondering, I am a Law scrub.
