Tico failed to fetch cores on v0.7.9

Today, I opened Tico because I wanted to play some PSP games. But suddenly, the app stopped working and showed an error.

I found out that there was some kind of network error preventing the game from running. When I turned off Wi-Fi, the problem went away.

Is this a common issue? Everything was still working fine yesterday, with no problem with fetxhing cores. I use an internet connection to connect Tico to RetroAchievements.

So, is there some sudden issue that I need to fix or configure, or will it eventually go away on its own?

Playing Local Multiplayer on Tico

The recent update (v0.7.7 or newer) finally added support for up to 4 players on GameCube (via Dolphin), which is awesome!

But are there any plans to support 4-player local multiplayer for PS1 as well?

I used to run a separate DuckStation emulator on Horizon OS to play PS1 games, and it supported mapping up to 4 controllers. However, the UI wasn't very good, so I eventually moved all of my games to Tico. Unfortunately, I just found out that DuckStation on Tico doesn't support local multiplayer yet.

I'd really love to play games like Team Buddies, Crash Bash, Let's & Go!! Eternal Wings, and other PS1 co-op or multiplayer games on Tico.

It would be amazing if local multiplayer support for PS1 could be added in a future update.

(I'm also looking forward to the recent PS2 emulator, NetherSX2, which can now run directly on Horizon OS. If it eventually gets integrated into Tico, the Nintendo Switch would become an even more incredible all-in-one retro gaming console.)

I’m not crying. It’s just… there’s some snow in my eyes…

I did not expect it to end like this :( I can’t :(

At first, I didn’t give a f*ck about this side quest. I just kept playing because the story was kinda fun and Puff was cute too, but… damn, it hit hard at the end when I heard that song :(

Is there a way to play multiplayer in Tico, especially on GameCube games?

I've tried to connect 2nd controller, but it just didn't respond

I’m using the default settings without changing anything. I enabled the experimental Dolphin core (which automatically overclocks the Switch to 1785/768 whenever I run a GameCube game, as long as sys-clk is active).

Here are the games I tried that run perfectly (as shown in the image):

  • Digimon Rumble Arena 2
  • Nicktoons Unite
  • One Piece: Grand Adventure
  • Tom and Jerry: War of the Whiskers
  • Hot Wheels: Velocity X
  • Crash Tag Team Racing
  • Crazy Taxi
  • Battle Stadium D.O.N. (CPU Clock Rate at 50%)

A small note about Battle Stadium D.O.N.: by default, it’s very laggy and basically unplayable. I did some tweaking and found a sweet spot at 50% CPU clock rate. It’s not perfectly 100% smooth, but it becomes much much more playable.

One thing I think Tico could improve is the experimental core that overclocks the Switch to 1785/768. Sometimes it doesn’t apply the overclock automatically, so I have to restart Tico to make it work.

Also, since I’m used to the PS layout, I had to remap the Joy-Con A/B and X/Y buttons. It would be great if Tico added an option to remap controls directly.

Per-game settings (instead of only global settings) would also be a nice addition.
