NKD Mini Voodoo

NKD Mini Voodoo

The new mini Voodoo clone came in and I have to say, I’m impressed! The action and build quality seems equal to the large sized Voodoo that everyone went crazy over and the carbon fiber copper scales are FAR better than the seller pics would indicate . The ergos are good and even though the handle is significantly shorter than the larger version, it feels very comfortable in my XL hands and a four fingered grip is easy. There is a nice discreet M390 engraved on the underside of the blade and if it’s 60-62 HRC and cryo treated as advertised (which I don’t doubt that it is at this point), this one is another winner. I know people were concerned that the handle is thicker than the original Null Voodoo Doll but it’s not an issue . It’s slightly thinner than the OG Voodoo clone but such a slight difference that it feels identical in hand.

Durability of CRK Zaan clone

Just received an impressive Zaan clone. It’s so close to the real thing aesthetically, blows me away. Don’t have a real Zaan to compare it with but I do have a genuine Sebenza 21 and the actions are pretty much identical. My question though is about durability. CR knives are known for absurd durability and ruggedness in a folding knife and wondering if a well done clone can approximate the durability of the genuine article. I’m leaning towards yes but it’s just a gut feeling, nothing to back it up. Anyone put a Chinese clone through some abuse and how has it held up? As a side note, if anyone is looking at a CR clone, this might be the best one yet. As one reviewer put it, these are as good as when Kevin John was cloning these and those set the benchmark years ago. Think we may have a new GOAT for CR clones.

NKD Damascus DLC

New Damascus DLC knife off of AE. The one on the left is one I had previously and the new one on the right is exactly the same but in a really nice DLC coating on both the blade and handle. These are made by Six Leaf (although the one on the right is branded QK). Very solid and smooth knives with beautiful Damascus using RWL34 and PMC27 steels. Very well built, the mechanics are spot on. These seem slept on. Pretty good value if you catch a sale on AE

Lemifshe Voodoo screw issue

Just received my Voodoo and I’m not seeing what the issue is with the screws. The 3 screws in the micarta scales came tight, I loosened them and retightened and they tightened up fine. Were these the screws that are the issue or the ones under the scales? Haven’t broken the knife down. Was the screw issue with all the knifes or just some? On another note, this is a really nice knife and my first clone!

Copper infused knives

I have a real liking for knives that use copper either in the scales or the blade (not necessarily scales made from straight up copper, have those also but not what I’m talking about here). Here’s my meager collection so far and hoping to add more. Let’s see yours, I’m looking for ideas to add to the collection. Thanks

Kevin John Venoms

A couple of new Venom knives just came in and am beyond impressed. I now have 6 in my collection and every one is just on another level. The Attacker (left) is discontinued but was able to track a NOS one down. I overpaid but who cares. The right is a new model, the Faintgleam. For those wanting to see how good Chinese knifes can really be, get your hands on Venom knives. And they are surprisingly well priced compared to the other top tier Chinese knives

Folding knives with lockout feature

I have a couple of folding knives that have a lockout feature . This always struck me as a good idea since any type of lock can fail under the right conditions and the ability to lock a blade into place under very hard use seems like a prudent failsafe . I haven’t seen that many knives that have this feature and have only seen them on Chinese knives . Here are my two, a District 9 Venator and a Two Sun 346. They use different approaches. The Venator uses a sliding button that blocks the frame lock itself while the Two Sun uses a screw that physically blocks the blade. Both are effective. Curious to hear about any other folders that have a lockout and whether they can actually be close to a fixed blade in practical terms

New Two Sun TS585

Just received this beauty, a new Two Sun model, the TS 585. I’m closing in on triple digit number of Two Suns in my collection and am still able to be delighted when one of them shows up. Everything is beautifully built and I like Two Sun’s new proprietary steel (YJ01-V1) that is basically a spray form version of M390. I’ve noticed Two Sun is also putting longer backspacers on the new models that obviates an obvious flaw in their earlier models (being able to contact the blade when closed). Glad they finally addressed this. Lastly, most Two Suns come drenched in oil. This one was noticeably dry. Hopefully this will carry forward in their new releases going forward. Anyway, I will keep buying Two Suns, they are one of my favorite Chinese companies

I’ve read that 14c28n is easier to heat treat and easier to do correctly than M390 and that when buying budget Chinese knives, more likely to get a better heat treat with the 14c28n version of a knife than its M390 counterpart. What do we think?
